I saw a posting by Brad on facebook this morning of a Ford E-Thunderbird concept car. it figures that Ford would be looking to expand on the E-Mustang if it is successful. This Thunderbird concept looks to me like a 1980 thunderbird mated with a Deloran! I tried to copy and repost without success. Anyone else saw this?

Here's a link but can't be real, an EV would not have a grill and shape would be a lot more aero.

Note that this isn't a Ford rendering, but rather a fan's conceptual rendering of a Ford. The idea of an E-Bird, however, isn't IMHO far fetched, particularly with the introductory success of the E-Mustang.Life without passion is no life at all.

If you read the story associated with the pic, it is only using this as an example of taking a common electric vehicle on a frame and putting any variety of shells over the top. The intent isn't to deliver a vehicle with good performance/mileage, but rather to take an almost kit-like approach to an electric car.

The general form (especially the roof line) looks like the 1977 jade green T'Bird I had back in the day.Originally posted by Gobird View PostHere's a link but can't be real, an EV would not have a grill and shape would be a lot more aero.

Certainly this is not a Ford rendering. A note about the grill. There are all sorts of after market grills for the Tesla, especially the 3 model. My wife pointed out a Tesla the other day as good looking and I saw the grill in the rear view mirror and looked up grills for Teslas and all sorts of them popped up. I remember years ago when the early Infiniti had no grill, people didn't like it. I guess the public just wants the front of the car to look like yesterday no matter how tomorrow the entrails might be.

Really interesting seeing the fan-made EV Thunderbird rendering. While it's clearly not from Ford directly, the idea of reimagining classic nameplates like the Thunderbird in an electric form makes a lot of sense, especially after the Mustang Mach-E's reception.
Curious, do you think Ford could successfully revive the T-Bird as a 2-door performance EV coupe? Or is the market too focused on crossovers now?
Also, some EV startups are experimenting with modular platforms that let you change "shells", reminds me of what was mentioned earlier in this thread about using shared underpinnings.
