T-Bird Problem

Not looking for advice the dealer will fix this. I was driving the Bird down on 27 and turned the air on. About 60 sections later the temp gage spiked. I turned the air off and the temp came back to normal. This happened twice on the short drive I was on. This isn't a good sign, something is wrong and when I get it back from the dealer I'll let you know what the problem was.

Before I pick up the T-Bird I am going to have the serpentine belt replaced and all rubber hoses replaced. It's a 20 old car and rubber gets soft and goes away. I'm not taking the chance of going on a long TBN Event and something going wrong or breaking

I had the same thing happen to me years ago. Turned the car off. Restarted, and it reset. Started to drive and it happened again. Bad thermostat.

Good decision on the belts. Our car will go to the mechanic for a thorough inspection prior to driving to Georgia in May. Going to Sarasota is one thing, going to the other side of Atlanta is a whole different cup of tea. Overdue for spare tire replacement as well, still have the original. We don't drive the car much and it's mostly local driving. We're looking into changing our auto insurer. We've driven roughly 17k since we moved to FL 12 years ago. That's <1.5k per year. And we drove the car to Texas in 2011, and Tennessee in 2012, that's a big chunk of the mileage.

Just tried to start my car after sitting a couple months under cover. Battery totally dead, can't even open trunk to jump. Any ideas?

Put your ignition key in the key hole behind the seat and turn to open the trunk.

It doesn't require electricity. It is mechanical.

Thanks Paul, I didn't turn the key far enough, and forgot that it had to be mechanical or what good would it be! Duhhh. Getting old and forgetful.

I'm glad you weren't left stranded, or in limp mode, Spence. I agree with you, and Phil, it makes sense to be proactive. I hope it all works out. The plastic housing failed on mine twice with limp mode, and then flat bed mode.

Just talked to the dealer. It was a thermostat. As for all hoses and belt replaced they found all but the one a heater hose, none from Ford, all after market suppliers. Cost was around $860.00. I don't think that's too bad for a 20 year old car.. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Picked up the Bird today and all's fine and working
