  • Software Updates

As you may know FORD released software updates for the Retro Tbird that corrected many issues. If you don't have a similar sticker under your hood your car probably never had the updates applied. I've had a number of people ask if it would be possible for me to come to their location to apply the updates. Currently I have the following planned; Next week in Carlisle PA at the FORD Nationals, June in Las Vegas (date TBD). Last 2 weeks of July in Florida. August/September at the CTCI and VTCI conventions in Iowa and Michigan

Bob, Any idea where that sticker would have been placed besides “in the engine compartment “?

The one pictured was on top of the front wheel well, could be on the bottom of the hood as well

Is this something the local ford dealer should be able to do? Did Ford publish a technical bulletin on the procedure? I am asking the questions because I did not find this sticker on my PCR bird or in any of the original paperwork I got with the bird from the original owner.

The sticker has a spot for the dealer to place their ID number so my guess is that they should be able to do it. The one shown was done way back in 2006. If your car is running fine I wouldn’t worry about it.

The dealer can do it but many won't because they won't touch 20 year old cars. FORD issued 50+ software updates over the years to correct software issues to keep your car operating properly. The updates include the hard shift from 2nd to 3rd, parasitic drains and many other issues concerning how all the computer modules communicate and shut down properly. Some people operate their home computer running Windows 95 with no updates and have no issues. If you develop a computer related issue with your car these same people will tell you the car is cursed by a wood nymph that lives in the glovebox

Brad, thanks for the response. I like your suggestion, the car is running fine so I will not pursue the issue for now. But something else good to know and keep in the files.

I live by a wise old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Many problems are caused by shade tree mechanics gumming up the works.
