Need a programmer for a 2002 ford thunderbird. Tried SVT and other brands as well, tripped the pas anti theft system before even downloading the stock tune. Can't find any compatible tuners on the web. What's the big secret?

Anyone know why a simple tuner won't work on this model car when they work on almost any other model ford?

Don’t have your answers but good luck. You might want to talk to ThunderBird Bob here. All I know is that the later years (03-05) are supposed to have a few more HP.

they added variable valve timing and redesigned the intake to breathe from the front of the engine instead of having a L shaped intake breather pipe routed across the top of the radiator and engine all the way to the rear soaking up all that heat.

I wonder why they didn't just make the hood scoop real instead of a blank fake, that would have resolved most of that foolish heat soaked design problem.

Would love to hear from anyone that has modded a actual cold air system for the 2002 using the current "tits on a boar hog" non functioning hood scoop.

      Hehehe :-)

I've got SVT more HP. Stock was 280...I'd guess I'm around 300hp....

          What model number is it?

What year is your Black Bird?

My Black Beauty is a 2003. I've had the tuner on for at least 10 years. My mechanic 'StevieWonder' changed a bunch of stuff. Shift points, rev limiter etc. My car is quick..

My prob is with a 2002 there is no vvt (variable vale timing) and all were c.a.r.b. (California) compliant for convivence.

Now I'm down to getting this thing into a actual computer and can't find one as we don't have the smog from the mountain ridge blocking air from west to east and bad air getting trapped in my city like southern California.

That computer is locked down way better than a cereal killer. And it makes the car pollute way more than if it was not choked down by some foolish idea that actually wastes gas and performance in my area of the world. Slack transmission shifts and growling of the transmission valves are why I started this turd hunt.

So I can get a programmer and up the trans pressure?

              NOT...

I hate it when a computer program blocks a simple fix tailored to the situation don't you? Isn't that the point of using computers to control a car in the first place? More control instead of less??

              Dane brammage knows no bounds.

If you know of a fix any help would be appreciated.

I got mine from Walmart, it came with 1 preloaded tune and I was able to change the radiator fan settings also the transmission settings great overall and easy to use.

I have a 2004 'bird and tuned it about a decade ago with an SCT. Sticker on it and on the package says 3015.
The instructions inside the packaging refer to it as an X3/SF3.
I understand that these are not 'supported' anymore, but it came with a CD. If you found one now it might work.
I've used it for a number of years as a general auto code reader and code re-setter too, but I recently got a real one of those.
I have no info about compatibility with 2002,

If I recall correctly there is a one-to-one link though.
Once you've downloaded a tune into the car, you can't use it to tune another car until such time as you restore the first car back to stock.
So if you were to find a used one, you'd want to be able to test it to make sure it'll do the job.

A few kernels of info here - hopefully something that might help you.

Thanks for the input John, I appreciate your response...

The 2002 is a completely different dog than latter years as they changed the drivetrain and computers in 2003.

They look the same but that's about it. Locking that computer down was silly but they made em all California emissions that year for what ever reason.

Pain in the ole buttox for sure. That computer is locked up tighter than the gold at Fort Knox.

Maybe one day I'll be able to tune it correctly but for now still hoping for a answer.
