  • Kentucky Derdy Day

Today is race day and for the first time in many years I do not have a pick in the race nor have I made a bet! I will be watching. Usually Rusty Frye will post on the race. I guess I will look for a long shot named Thunderbird! Hope he is a gray horse as they are easier to see!

Thanks KY-BYRD. Being retired, I get confused what day it is. The Derby race is tomorrow. I see one of my favorite trainers, Baffert, is back after a suspension so I will be watching for his entry.

Forget the race. Just pour me another bourbon.

Okay, I did my homework. The track will be sloppy and likely raining at start of race. With those conditions I am picking a 30 - 1 long shot to win in Coal Battle. The horse has two wins in these type conditions this year and has shown good speed running in the mud. So I am betting $10.00 across the board on this horse.
Also, for Gene, I am a bourbon drinker year round. There are a lot of expensive bourbons and there are some just as good bourbons costing a lot less. My choice is a Jim Beam Black label. A seven year aged bourbon that will not break the bank. Give it a try.

I knew my pick was in trouble when I saw him getting a shoe refitted right at post time. I tore my ticket up before the race was over. Coal Battle never got out of the gate. Oh well, that's horse racing! The winning horse ran strong and fast even in the mud. Anyone think we have a triple crown contender?
