As some here know I live in New Orleans and took our Merlot bird to Texas for Hurricane Katrina. We took a pretty heavy hit on our house and I am back cleaning our property and starting to rebuild our home. Piles of debris five to six feet high are in front of every home in our neighborhood. Today I was our for a walk to survey damage and the rebuilding progress of the neighborhood and found a yellow 2002 hardtop in the trash heap four blocks from my house.

Good to hear from you again. Thanks for updating me about your status soon after Katrina. I am sorry to now hear the extent of your damage.
In checking our membership for owners of a yellow bird, there is only one registered as living in NO who might have one. Melindasbird did not enter the car information in their registration. If the top does not belong to this member, it would be hard to track down who it was. I can just imagine how you must have felt seeing that hardtop waiting to be hauled off.
Please stay in touch.

Re: Guess What I Found in Katrina Trash?
We were in one of the most hard hit areas. We took the storm surge before it breached the levees and filled the bowl but only had 8 feet of water in first floor for about 4 hours. Everyone is fine and making lemonade.
I am not sure what I will do with the top. All I know is that its in my completely empty garage. I mean empty. Forty years of stuff that I just couldn't seem to get rid of when Bonnie said it was time to clean the garage is ALL gone. And the garage looks great. A sane person would use the top for parts. The portholes are in good shape as are the window and latches. It has lost all of its base molding and other parts. Has a few holes and has a nasty long hole scraped in it from being pulled over concrete on its way to the trash pile. I will take some pics tomorrow and try to post them. The owner took the car to Chalmette LA to keep it safe and it ended up submerged in six feet of water for three weeks. Some one less than sane might think they could restore it, remove the portholes, fill in the spaces and cover it with black convertible top material to make a "formal evening on-the-town" top. No bling of course.
I appreciate your interest and will keep you all posted.
