Re: My Bird rejected for Dutch roads

I'm at work, (wink wink), and I can not investigate this right now but, I know our cars have alot of other Ford car's parts on it. Do the Lincoln LS mirrors or Linclon Continental mirrors match ours? I think they have the binkers in the mirrors and perhaps they are heated also. These could be found in American recycle yards at reasonable prices and if lucky the color could be a match. This could lead to a new mod for us that has not been developed.

I would go with your first solution. Unless there is a servere downside to getting caught afterwards it offer only temporary ugliness.

"1 is to buy these ugly led arrows that one can stick on the mirror. I can use these to get passed the approval and then remove them until next years approval comes by."

I like Scotty's idea, except I wouldn't modify the chevrons. I would consider backlighting them from the rear

Chevrons are a good idea but why not investigate what it would take to modify the mirrors --> buy a new set and have them modified so there is a light build into them. Won't be cheap but it may look the best

Thansk all for the suggestions. Been looking into these build-in mirror leds, but they do not have the T-Bird listed. I send an e-mail out to the vendor to ask if they might produce one, or have a type that is like our T-Bird mirrors.

But then they also need to change the color of the leds, since red is not allowed in NL. It needs to be amber or white.
I have not heard back yet, but will post reply here as soon as it comes in.

Gary, I think the Lincoln is not a bad idea. They might have the same mirrors. I will check this option for sure.

Tony, when you send your friends over, can I use them to re-educate some others I dislike too?

Frits...I'm guessing that any for Lincoln would also have red LEDs as that is what is used here in the U.S. Good luck! Sorry you're having this problem.

                Hi Fritz!
Can't you just roll down the windows and use hand signals like when you are on a bike?
That would be the least expensive way to go. I can hear the inspection people laughing now. Hope you can get it resolved without too much cost or difficulty.

Frits...I found this kit in amber from www.muthco.com. When not in use it serves as a wide angle bilind spot mirror.

Thanks Gene. I send this company a mail about a week ago. They also make the Lincoln mirrors with leds build in. Have not heard back from them.

I will probably have extra lights installed on the fenders. If I ever get involved in any accident without them I am in trouble

The hash mark cavity already has holes in it. Lighting the hash marks sounds intriguing.

Frits, if you have to do something I would shell out the money to have the chevrons lighted somehow before hacking holes in my fenders. Not exactly how I would design that, maybe a border of LEDs around them or something between the chrome on each one. Maybe just a few LEDs on the end where there are no chrome "hashes" I would buy another set and have them hacked up keeping the originals.

Chuck: What's your take on backlighting the area behind the hashes? Seems to me that would be cool

Re: My Bird rejected for Dutch roads

Chuck, I could look into that. But compared to US we do not have so many stuff available here. I do not want it to look 'amaturistic'. Besides that. All cars on the road have the extra fender lights. Even new Mustangs have these mounted on. If you do not know better it looks as if they have been there from the factory on..

Now lighting the area behind it could be something to look into too Gene.

Also I think the mirror led option is a no go here. If one would stand next to my door, the lights would not be visible because they do not shine sideways. As you might know Holland has about 6 million bycicles. The side lights are particularly ment to show these people in traffic one is about to turn left/right. If a bycicle is driving left or right of the car and close to the mirror/front fender he/she needs to be able to see that light.

I was thinking the same thing Chuck. Maybe take the 50th anniversary chevron, (router) cut out the lettering, then put yellow LEDs behind it so it would show yellow through the lettering when blinking.

George, I really don't have a clue, was just thinking of a way to not have to hack holes in the fenders. Now I forget where we were, maybe LI but we met this Prowler club. There was some guy that had the a Prowler custom under hood insulator and he had the very thin blue neon wire that he sewed into it outlining the Prowler. This stuff was thread thin, maybe something like that around the chevron or what Wes said about getting the 50th anniversary ones, "routing" out the letters and laying this thread in there somehow. Frits, I agree with you 100%, has to look professional, can you use the internet to make contact with someone maybe in the states? Or the UK?
