Replacement Tires

I am going to be replacing the tires on my bird and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Goodyear Eagle Response Edge tires. The information I have is they provide a better ride and are quieter than the Goodyear F1's. They are "V" rated instead of "Z" and also have a better tread life. Any information is greatly appreciated. Not trying to start a tire (tars for us souther folk) war........

Darrell,
I've heard that some owners have had good fortune with Goodyear tires. I went with a Michelin model (FYI...see post below). Let us know how you like your tires whichever ones you choose.

go here for another tire thread, there is a picture of one of my original equipment tire's that blew out, I don't think I will ever get Michelin's again.

I baught the bridgstone's but now I wish I had the goodyear eagles, I think Goodyear is still an American company.

I put the Goodyear tires on about 1,000 miles ago, So far the have been very good. Can't really say if they are any quiter the the stock tires but the ride is as good if not better. In the rain, (yes I do drive in the rain) they have been better. The ride is smoth even up to 115mph (only once). The dealer said the machine showed a out of round rim but they re-instaled the tire an so far it's been ok.

I put on Goodyear Eagle Response Edge about 5000 miles ago-- I like the tread design, the ride is harsher than the OEM, but would not consider it rough.

Well, after doing a lot of reading and comparisons on traction, ride, noise, and factoring cost, I chose General Exclaim UHP's from Tirerack. Here's the writeup on Tirerack. Cost was $443.10 for the set which included shipping. Since we do not have much (if any) snow here in central Texas that was another factor in my choice. Of course I would not be driving the bird in snow or ice in Austin traffic. (Worst on the planet)

The only thing that bothers me about your General tires is being a directioal tire you can't rotate them as you would regular tires. You can only put the front tires on the back and the back tires on the front becuase you have two lefts and two rights.

You are correct, I was aware of that when I decided to pull the trigger on them. In the past I had a 1988 Formula Firebird that had directional Gatorbacks. They were were VERY surefooted in both wet and dry weather, which is one the main factors I considered.

Had directionals that came as standard equipment on the 93 Mustang GT...in the 10 years I owned her, I always replaced them with the same tire...never had a problem.

My Son just bought a new Shelby Mustang and guess what, no spare at all. You get a air pump that pumps Fix-A-Flat. The Cadillac CTS has the same thing, a spare on the CTS is a $250.00 option.

The proper way to rotate tires are front to back, same side.

A tire forms a 'pattern of life', and you don't want to 'unwind' the pattern criss crossing the tires,

Just my 2 cents worth.

Leroy, my little '93 wasn't that sophisticated (all wheels same size)...it was simply a front-to-back rotation due to directional tires...I was younger (and poorer!) back then and usually did my own rotation.

My '02 SLK 32 AMG had no spare and the backs were wider than the fronts...the spare was the same setup as the Shelby...hated the thoughts of getting stranded somewhere with a shreaded tire!

you can`t go wrong by getting tires from tire rack
