  • Leak Saga Not Over

Got back from vacation and checked under the car and AGAIN there was a small pool of fluid. I hopefully thought well maybe it's just left over fluid from a messy mechanic. I drove the car to work and around town a few times, parked it for 3 days, nothing, and then this morning another pool on the floor (silver dollar size).
I just got back from Ford and will take it in next Tuesday. This time the thinking is that it's oil, not antifreeze...maybe there were two leaks. At this point as far as I'm concerned they can have the car. I've gone through these exercises in frustration, patience and persistence before but I'm afraid it's going to spoil the fun I had hoped to have with this vehicle....there's a Porsche dealer down the street, I wonder how much fixing they take?

Slow down Gary...Don't jump to fast. What kind of Fluid is it?

What color is it?It maybe no big deal.It may be a simple fix.As far as a Porshe is concerned...Why do you think the dealerships all look really nice....Nothing is for Free...If it is...You Already Paid for It !!

    Good Luck !

Hi Gary...hear your pain. Just an FYI, Porsche is now rated as #1 in customer satisfaction by JD Powers. I'm looking at buying a Cayman S in 2 years (have yet to decide whether I'll hold onto the Bird or not - for me it depends on Ford getting their act together and FIXING MY D%^N TRANSMISSION!!).

Gary, I had a similar problem with my '05 and when I brought it in, it turned out that there is a vent for fumes in the transmission. The vent was venting fluid in my case. I think the transmission had too much fluid in it.
In order to check the level, they had to remove and reinstall the transmission, about a $300 labor charge under warranty.

P.S. If you think Ford service is high$, wait until you buy a German car. "If you have to ask, "How much....you can't afford it."

Calvin, You got lied to. It is not neccessary to remove the transmission to check the fluid level. It's a simple procedure, my mechanic does it for free when he changes my engine oil.

Thanks, Jim. My error. I just thought that was the case because when I complained about transmission oil on the floor, they removed the transmission, changed something inside and replaced it. When I asked where the dipstick was, they said it was a sealed unit. That is why I thought what I thought. By the way, no leaks but it sure don't shift up and down like my Avalon! I wish Ford had a little better Select Shift Transmission. I never know if it's going to be in first gear or not when I come to a stop while in Drive.

P.S. The Transmission Expert at my Ford dealer says he can find nothing wrong. I should let him take it for a few days and tell me it's A-OK!

                    Re: Leak Saga Not Over

Is it water or oil? After a long drive using the air-conditioning I have a puddle of water from the condensation on the condenser. Short drives it doesn’t build up enough to drip.

It's not water. I'm familar with AC condensation. This morning I checked before taking it to the dealer and I saw what might be some weeping of oil from one of the front oil pan screws so I marked it for the mechanic to check. It's at the dealers now. We'll see what comes up.

                        Re: Leak Saga Not Over

Well maybe the saga is over. Just got the car back from Ford and they say that there is no leak but that the fluid in my sample was antifreeze fluid. The same mechanic that repaired the antifreeze line last time worked on the car again and he said that there is probably a residue of fluid in the sub-frame that may be making its way down slowly. He cleaned the areas out as much as he was able so now we just have to wait and see, I have my fingers crossed.

They also replaced the t-bird emblem on the front nose that was broken last time...no charge for anything.
