  • Canvas cover

When I purchased my 2004 bird there was a canvas cover in the trunk. It is obviously intended as a cover for when the top is down. I cannot figure out how to use it or even which is the front or rear. I don't know if it came with the car or an after market accessory. Does anyone have one of these and what can you tell me about it?

    Re: Canvas cover

    Hi there,

This sounds to me as though it could be the cover for the hard top when the hard top is not used and is in storage. My hard top is now sat on it's stand in the back of the garage and the cover then fits over the top and the stand.

If not, it could be the soft boot which covers the space where the soft top collapses in to when down. This cover though is not really canvasy but a bit more plush than that. If it is the soft boot cover , there will be press studs along the front which press on to the press studs at the back of the car. The rear end just tucks under the back edge.

    Hope this helps, Gordon.

Thomas, are you talking about the Boot Cover? Or the canvas cover for the hard top when it is being stored? If it's the boot cover, it will have snaps on one end that snap onto the deck just behind your seats. The two ends and back tuck into the soft top well to form a nice smooth look....If you look at some of the pictures in the gallery you will see what the installed boot cover looks like when it's on....

If that what you found is light grey/silver colored it is what Gordon says, the cover for the hardtop.

          Thomas,
If it's not the boot ot he hardtop cocver as others have mentioned. The only thing I can think of is this. They make a cover like a car cover, only it cocers only the convertible top portion of the car. If this is it. there should be some pockets for the rearview mirrors to fit it that will define what is the front, should also have some straps on the sides, back, etc. to attach,in the trunk and along the lower sides of the car to hold it on.
If not this, the boot or hardtop cover, I'm at a loss.

I have seen that, but think it's very dangerous to use. You can't see a thing with that, can you?

                Frits,

Like your humor, but I have one of these (TBird Concepts cockpit covers), and it is great. I use it when the car is in the garage rather than raising and lowering the top so much. Keeps dust out of the interior and also insects. It is very light and easy to use. I just figure it saves some wear and tear on the top motor.

                  Re: Canvas cover

Thank you everyone. I now realize that is a cover for the hard top on the stand(which I do not have) and I will use it to protect the hard top. I do have the boot also but don't use it very often. I like the suggestion of putting the cover on wile garaged to keep dust out
This was my first question to the forum and you certainly helped Tom
