  • Chrome Trunk Rack For Our T Bird

This came to me via e mail from Thunderbird Concepts. I want one for when Deb and I travel with The Platinum Beauty. Looks like it was done well from what I see. I think I can order it some time next week.

Looks like this will be a winner for road trips. Also a good idea to have since in the event of a flat tire since it won't fit in the trunk! Our cars have very elegant lines, but the designers blew it on some basic practicalities.

I like the way it can be taken off the car when not needed. The looks are OK but I don't think I would leave it on the car full time. Depending on cost I would be interested in something like this.

        Trunk Rack Pics

Just got an Email from ( thunderbirdconcepts.com ) that has pics of their new trunk rack for the retro bird. Not available yet but will be taking orders soon. Just scaned through it and didn't see a price anywhere. Not a bad looking rack, if you need that kind of thing. I don't think many owners will buy it just for looks though? It's similar to the C-3 Vett racks from 68 to 79. They don't mount on the trunk lid permenently and aren't supposed to leave any marks on the paint? Might not be a bad thing to have in the trunk incase you needed it though. Leroy

Will DEFINATELY be getting this. Travel back in forth to NE. Great addition, especially if the unthinkable Flat Tire occurs. My 69 Vette had one on it, though perminent, it was handy and did not look bad either. I like the fact that this one can come off. And, for the long road trips, it's a winner!!

          Way to go, AARON!!!!!!

I agree Dave.... sent Aaron an e-mail congratulating him on the sleek design, yet it will be very useful. Another home run from Thunderbird Concepts....

I'm on Aaron's list, and plan to get one when he's ready to take orders - even if it's just for the "flat tire" benefit.

I'm afraid I'd have to say...... pack less, but it does look functional.

I'm with you Rusty....Pack less...It takes the whole back end.

Might as well pull a small trailer.

I think I would opt for a small light trailer too if you need extra cargo capacity. Especially after seeing DavidA's here at Desert Thunder.

I'll pack less also. After you load your luggage, or whatever, and strap it down, you now have no rear view mirror vision. Plus, I don't care for the way it looks. JMO

Re: Chrome Trunk Rack For Our T Bird

Nice option, but I just take out the trunk liner under the top fold-down area when I have to have more space. That works for me.

I'd question putting a tire on it..would that weight bend enough to touch the trunk and chafe the paint. Maybe you need load weight restrictions from Aaron

Re: Chrome Trunk Rack For Our T Bird

The rim and tire should not be able to bend the rack, my input to Scott about the rack was that when I was looking at doing a rack for my bird, I was going to design it to carry the spare tire and tools. When the spare is out of the trunk you have a lot more room for luggage, and as I told Scott, I would hate to have to remove everything from the trunk and get the spare in a rain storm.

I'm wondering if you could free up trunk space by putting the spare in the space behind the seats. Of course, you'd need to figure out a way to keep it from rolling.
