  • A Dirty Bra

Before Savannah Thunder I purchased a Ford Bra for "Annie" and I left it on for a while after that weekend. It now has some dirt on the white inside material. Has anyone come up with an easy way to clean these things? I'm afraid to just throw it in a washing machine, which is what my wife says I usually do with everything. Does Anybody have one of these bras and how do you clean them?

Cal -- To clean the bra take it off the car and using a stiff brush, brush away as much of the dirt and grit as possible. Then just hang it back on the front of the bird and wash the outside of it, remove it from the car, and hang it somewhere to dry. But the most important thing is to get as much of the grit off the backside of the bra as possible.

        Re: A Dirty Bra

I just purchased the Ford Bra and here is the cleaning instructions from the Instruction Sheet.

"To clean the vinyl and flannel backing use a mild soap and water solution. (Approximately one tablespoon of soap per half gallon of water.) Using a cloth or sponge gently rub soiled area until clean. Take care to rinse with clear water when finished. Repeat if necessary. Hang out to dry, but not in direct sunlight.)

It also lists Ford customer assistance number 1-800-347-1200 if you have questions.

IMO, I would be concerned about the netting getting snagged if you machine washed it.

        Hope this helps

I have cleaned mine many times just as explained by tracy and Marty.

Clean first with a car brush. Then I took 409 in water and rubbed over the back with a spongge. Do not saturate with soap cause it is hard to get out. Wrinse it with clear water. The longer you let the dirty area set in the harder it is to clean. You may not get all of it out but you will get most of it. If that does not work, have a couple of stiff drinks and look at it again. It will look much better. Lou

Have enough stiff drinks and the bra won't look dirty at all.

DO NOT PUT IN A MACHINE.......the mesh front won't survive. I had a small tear in mine and when I took my road trip this weekend it just schredded apart. Theres 150 dollars down the drain...

No No No Walter! It is not a gonner. Take it to a good upolster. They can sew in a replacement netting. I know this for a fact cause this is what I had to do and it works just fine.

As for washing the BRA I take mine into the shower. Been know to even do that while on a road trip takeing the bra into the motel shower. Nothing better than a good spray with warm water and a little soap. Let it dry overnight and it is good to go again.

Just made a trip to my garage to look for a can of this stuff and it appears it's gone. There is a product you can spray on fabric to help prevent stains, kind of a sealer, and I believe 3M makes it. Would a product like this help prevent the underneath of the bra from staining to deeply? I've never seen a bra that did not scratch or leave marks on what it was on. I'd be interested to know if the benefit of the protection out weighs my concerns of paint damage to Phoenix.

If you have a FRONT loading washing machine, you can most certainly wash it that way. I do not have one for either of my Birds, but I've been washing the one for my neighbor's car for over a year. Just select the "hand wash" or "delicate" cycle, and it comes out perfect!

No one I know of that's used the Ford Bra has had paint wear damage. I've used one off and on for the past 6 years on our 02 and the past 3 years on our 05 and there have been no marks left. I think the current design of the bras do much to aleviate the marks that you remember on cars of the past.

Our Bird doesn't wear a bra, it is usually topless. Except in the winter.

As I mentioned in an early post of this thread, I use a front end cover, BRA, on our 05.
My MSB shows absolutely no marks or scuffs from the use of the BRA. Mine is made for FORD and sold under FORD's part number. If there are other front end covers marketed by others not licensed by FORD they may or may not fit as well and maybe some damage could occur.

I keep the hood and the whole front well waxed which of course makes cleaning the front easy. BUT also gives a good protection to the paint when the BRA is on. Maybe this isn't entirely necessary, but I do it anyway.
