Gasoline is also cheap compared with other essential fuels.
A Starbucks venti latte costs the equivalent of $23 per gallon,
    while
Budweiser beer runs $11 per gallon

When measured on an inflation-adjusted basis, the current price of gasoline is only slightly higher than it was in 1922. According to the Energy Information Administration, in 1922, gasoline cost the current-day equivalent of $3.11. Today, according to the EIA, gasoline is selling for about $3.77 per gallon, only about 20 percent more than 86 years ago.

Gasoline is also a fairly minor expense when you consider the overall cost of car ownership. In 1975, gasoline made up 33.4 percent of the total cost of owning and operating a car. By 2006, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, gasoline costs had declined to just 17.1 percent of the total cost of car ownership. Of course, fuel costs have risen by about $1 per gallon since 2006, but even with those increases, fuel continues to be a relatively small part of the cost of car ownership. By contrast, the fixed costs of ownership—insurance, licensing, taxes, and financing—have increased nearly fivefold since 1975. Maintenance costs have also quintupled over the same time period

Interesting progression on the gas prices, Dot.

We've done a lot of traveling this year and the gasoline prices varied widely. Of course we paid over $4 per gallon for premium and regular unleaded early in the summer and now we are under $2 for regular unleaded in virtually all of Oklahoma and in sume places premium is also under $2.

I bought regular unleaded for $1.749 in Broken Arrow (Tulsa suburb) and would have paid $1.949 for premium if I had been in the Thunderbird. From your list these are summer of 2004 prices - wonder how long this will last?

You are right, no fun, depression has set in, Bird has gone to its winter nest until next spring.
On the brighter side, I have all the gang on the forum to amuse me. Thanks to everyone and keep it coming.

'Gasoline' prices are down to .84 cents a liter (reg) .95 (prem.) this past weekend.

I have no idea, but I doubt my Bird would get anywhere on it.

Re: Gas price changes since 2002

The Chevron I usually fill up at had a huge line Saturday and was selling Reg. @ $179.9. The lines were insane so I went across the street to Shell who had it @ 1.99.9 with no lines. At Shell Prem. was 229.9.

I heard a news story that demand was down 3% but I did not catch from what point in time….. I can not believe a 3% decrease in demand has created this drastic fall in gas prices.
