  • NEW T-BIRD MUD FLAPS

I tried to improve the mud flaps on the new Bird. I know some members do not like them but the reason I put them on is because of the Vouge tires. They have a fatter profile and stick out a little further then the stock tires thus kicking up a lot of road dirt which ends up on the bottom of the fenders. Please give me your opinion.
    Thanks,
    Ron

Ron... I like them... because they are the colour of the car - very classy.

Very nice, that's the way they should be, color-keyed to the car. What is the source of the flaps themselves?

You asked Ron, not so much. If the flaps serve a practical purpose then I say go for it. We are about to drive my wife's T-Bird to a small town with shell roads. I may change my opionion soon. Beautiful T-Bird though!

I like your mud flaps. I have the black ones that are most common on the birds that use them. They are not as obvious as they seem to blend in with the tires. They surely fall short of being tacky. I have them in front as well as in back. They are great for preventing paint dings and road tar splatters on a part of the car that is awkward to clean. I can just see people, on their knees, reaching under their bird trying to rub off spots of tar and thinking, "at least it doesn't look tacky".

              For Bradford,

The previous owner told me he got them at the Ford dealerand they installed them for him. Originally they were black.

Well, it's not something I would add to my cars, but they look just fine Ron. Painted and color keyed to the body is definitely a big improvement over the black mudflaps.

Sandman, Yes, they do look better painted, and now that you've brought to our attention the reason you have them on there, I can see your consern. But from the looks of your 3rd picture, the close-up of the rear drivers side wheel. It appears that the offset of the rim may be setting the tire farther out more than just the width of the tires. Do you have any concerns about the front? The White top and the White Walls are really sharp though. I had a White top on my Black 04 for a few days last Summer doing the HT Relay to Boston, I felt like I was driving a Police car. I have a 03 MSG on it now and I like it much better. Leroy

Certainly blends in much better in body colour. Are you planning to put them on the front as well ? Also, I would presume that you left the 'tire side' of the flap black to blend in with the wheel well. Have been thinking fo ding this on our "007" coral bird.

                      For Martin,

I am toying with the idea of putting them on the front. I have them ,only have to paint them. I might try having them on so there is some continuity.

I will then bring it up for a vote.

Ron, honestly, I don't like the painted flaps. Now they look too much like they are a part of the car, which changes the whole body look and design that we all love. I have the mud flaps, not yet installed yet, but will be soon. I don't want the flaps to stand out on my car, I prefer much more that they remain black and quietly blend in next to the black tires, versus painting them thunderbird blue and blending into the body design of the car. jmho
Good luck on whatever decision you make Ron, that's a beautiful car you purchased!

I like them in the picture (maybe it's just the gorgeous tire/wheel combo).

Who makes them and where can you get them?

I have to ad my thumbs up for your mud flaps. I would want to see what they look like on the front though before I would ad them to my car.....But your Torch, with White top, looks GREAT.....
