There is nothing I have seen regarding periodic maintenance of the top mechanism. However if you think it is necessary you can get to all the joints in the top mechanism with a little STP on the end of your finger. The nice thing about STP is that it doesn't tend to run downhill even on a really hot day. After you dab a little on the joints you can wipe the area with a solvent cloth.
