  • Bad weather for my Bird

I live in Northern Indiana about 30 miles from Chicago. The other day it was below zero and we had about 6" of snow on the ground. This mourning I get up and all the snow is gone and it's 62 outside and raining. The Wife goes out to get her car out of the garage and she comes back in and says it's soaking wet from sweating. My T-Bird is right next to it but covered, but I know the same thing is happening to it. I'm going out there today and start it up and let it run for awhile and at least dry out the engine compartment. By this time tomarrow we'll be below freezing again. Global Warming? Leroy

The sudden change of temp sure did that. Your bird's parts are still probably pretty cold, and the high humidity (rain) condensed on it.

You may want to run the heater on high as well with the windows cracked to let out some of the humidity. You will probably also want to do it again the first "dry" (low humidity) day you get.

They used to sell desecant (sp?) packs to put inside your car while in storage, not sure if they are still available, basically these are very large versions of those little packets that come in electronics that say "Do Not Eat".

These do help as we used to use em when storing classic cars for customers years back.

If you're 'Bird is not typically driven during the winter, it sounds as if you'd be a prime candidate for one of those zippered car enclosures that are designed to prevent just such an instance from damaging your baby! Relatively speaking, they're not big money and are something I would consider if I were storing a vehicle over the winter back in your part of the country.

I went out this afternoon and took the cover off and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. No moisture at all inside. She fired right up and I let her run for about a half hour with the heat on inside. While it ran I wiped down the wet spots with a soft towel then I shut it down and put the cover back on. The cover realy made a difference, compared to the Wifes Malibu LTZ that wasn't covered. Leroy

Leroy it was incredible the other night...the entire ground looked like a pot of water on the stove during a rolling boil with incredible amounts of moisture racing upwards.

I've got a rather elaborate procedure for removing moisture from the Bird...first insert key...turn to start...gearshift to D4 (don't forget to hold the brake) then depress accelerator....repeat last step until all moisture is gone!
