George is up to 8 dead mice now. and yes, the backorder sounds ominous. It's a low need repair part in circulation because it seems that mice/rodent damage are the main reason anyone needs to have theirs replaced.
I would assume that if it fit the LS, the dealer would have that as a cross-reference for parts.

Martin, had George go out and look at the part# on the hose:
          ?W43-90289-AA
I assume the ?mark might be a 1,2,3,4, or 5 - depending on the year it was last updated.
the fittings on each end are the important part of the hose.

Susan, I assume you have an extended warrenty? A six year old Tbird is not under a manufacturers warrenty even it has only been driven one mile.

I gotta agree......my FORD SERVICE MANAGER takes care of my TBIRD like it belongs to him....and if it needs to stay over night....it is always parked inside.

?W43-9D289-AA - Evaporative Emissions hose for a 2005 Thunderbird (i had the wrong part# in the previous message. That's the best I can do for you. The important part of the number is the 9D289 and that it's for a 2005 Thunderbird.

To NJ Susan, thanks for giving the name of the dealer in your post. I'm close to you in Denville, NJ (with another home in PA) and I've used Loman Ford. Not bad but I think I'll try Trabor if I have any more COP issues. My bird is red too.

Good news from this end Martin. George got a call from our Ford dealer and the part is in! - part #3W4Z-9D289-AA. He just brought it home. Said the dealer was also surprised that it came in so quick - wasn't expecting it either. The part was shipped from Livonia, MI

                          Dot:
I'm just curious now. When you drove it to the dealer, before they found the issue and taped it, did the engine run roughly or lose power?
Glad you finally have the part to fix it

George, the only indication that George had was the engine light coming on, no other symptoms.

This month's Car & Driver rated the Ford Fusion Hybrid as the best pick of 4 tested hybrids including the Toyota Camry. For that magazine to endorse a Ford product, who have never found a Toyota, Honda or BMW they didn't love, with a glowing test report gives me hope that Big Blue may be able to survive this mess.

I have heard a lot of import lovers at work compliment Ford for passing on the bailout money.

Maybe things are looking up ... I hope so.

In the current issue of Consumers Reports (April 2009 issue) they do a review of all the new models out for 2009. I was surprised as to how many various different models of Ford, that they gave the rating of "Recommended" to, as they normally lean in the direction of the various foreign makes usually. Ford has really came a long way on improving their quality in recent years. They have topped General Motors in their quality category, and although their yearly sales haven't passed GM, Ford's quality control has. Okay, without starting a "blood bath battle" here, the C.O.P.'s issue on the Thunderbird wasn't up to par..........but in all fairness, that was just one major defect in one model car.

                                Re: Ford Dealer

Uncle Turbo, I purchased my '95 40th Anniversary Thunderbird from Loman because he was the only dealer who had one (they only made 2,200) and I fell in love with it. However, their service left a lot to be desired. It took them three times to fix the leather bucket seat (imagine a size 48 suit on a size 34 body - baggy doesn't even come close). Also, there was a damage on the striping when I bought the car and they only ordered a small (not adequate) piece. This was something I noticed when I bought the car and they promised they would fix it.

Even though I had the problems with their service when we were searching for the 2002 bird, I went to look - they treated me like dirt in the sales department. On that note, Trebour wouldn't even let me sit in the one in their showroom. But, in their defense, they only had one so I'm sure they wanted to make sure I was a viable customer, but they lost me.

I purchased the car at Wayne Ford because they were the only ones in the area with a red with black accent interior - I didn't want the red accent (just my choice). They didn't charge the $10,000 premium over sticker and they allowed Mike and I to test drive her (naturally a two seater, the salesman couldn't come along!)

I love my car, and even though it is winter, if it's dry, I drive her.

Have you ever gone to the cruise night in Boonton (Fridays) sponsored by Starlight Cruisers or the Wanderers at the Chatterbox on Saturdays?
