  • Seat covers

First off, sorry to the rest of the country.:sun: It's been very warm here in sunny California!!! I drove today with the top down and the seats got VERY hot. Any thoughts about seat cover? back in the 80's sheep skins were a sure bet. Looking around the net I don't see anything other then something for a truck. Any idea's on what our fellow Tbirds drivers are using? Thanks

    Re: Seat covers

Check a website, www.seatcovers.net it's a large site, take some time to navigate it and find all the areas. You can get anything from universal to custom fit. The custom fit is the way to go, they actually fit like a glove, have provisions for side airbags, seat belts, etc. Choices of sheepskin, vinyl, tweed, etc. etc. Each fabric also comes in various choice of color. Some are tacky, some are very tasteful. Your car being black it would be easy to choose a color, my cashmere is a little different, some are the complete wrong color and I need to get samples to choose. Living in South Florida, I hate trying to cover my lite colored leather with towels to keep oil etc, off my seats when going to the beach, out on the boat, different activities.

Dave, not sure if you are considering sheepskin. I was for a while and was told that static electricity builds up between the seat cover and the seat causing ultimately ruining your leather seats.

If the seats are too hot my opinion is it's too hot for the top to be down. Up to 90 degrees I can handle, but on the way to Thunder and Good Vibrations it got to 98 degrees on the thermometer, so the top went up and the air on. OK, I'm a wimp.

We have sheep skin in Rosebud that we bought at Shucks Auto Store. They have a rubber like material on the underside. We haven’t noticed any static or see any damage on the seats.

                Re: Seat covers

I went with sheepskin vests. They don't block the side air bag and still show enough of the seat as not to look like an over stuffed chair yet are very comfortable on a hot day. One note of interest, I only use them in the summer as they block the majority of heat coming from the seat heater when you want it. They have a fabric backing and there have been no issues with cracking the leather seats. I clean and condition the seats at least twice a year.

That's me. I'll take the hardtop off in the spring and fall when the weather is nice here in Las Vegas. In the middle of summer when it's 100 degrees or more, the hardtop stays on the car. Driving around and baking in the summer or freezing in the winter is no fun for me.

It's located on the upper 1/2 side of the the back rest between the seat and door. They do make seat covers that have a split in them to allow for airbag deployment. If you have full seat covers, make sure they are designed for side airbags!
