  • Re: Luggage Racks

With Stainless Steel at an all time high at scrap yards, these racks would be easy pickens. Alot easier than the Cat-Converters. And if your luggage is on it, it's like icing on the cake. It's like leaving anything valueable in your ca,r in open site, with the doors unlocked. Leroy

I think a lot of people forget about the space in the roof well when the roof is up. It could be easily stored in the well if you didn't want to haul it into the hotel or motel at night. Haven't tried it yet but then again I haven't been to Ohio to pick it up either.

Drive it like you stole it !!!

Please give us a break. I really do not think anyone will creap into a motel parking lot and rip one of these racks off the back of a Bird to sell for scrap. If we used that logic they would more likely back up and load the ENTIRE car and haul it off to sell it for scrap!

Thank you Roger. I also want a break from these negative posts about the rack. On a positive note, thank you Aaron (T-Bird Concepts) for an accessory that 99.9 % of the TBN members who ordered one like.

recycling yards in Las Vegas pays 50 cents a pound for stainless steel, so one of these racks would get you about $5.00. You win Leroy looks like this is the beginning of the next big crime wave.

Thank you Roger! Aaron did something good for Thunderbird owners, just say thank you people! If owners are that worried about having the rack stolen, then remove it and take it in your hotel room with you. Aaron told us right up from the weight allowance and said the rack is not for carrying a flat tire. Dot proved to us with pictures that a flat or spare tire can be carried in the spare tire well in the trunk.
Thank you Aaron, the majority of us appreciate the fact that you took the time and helped us out with a luggage problem.

I scraped a lot of metal when working,Bronze, copper, alum. and stainless steel was the least to sell.If you didn't have a ton of it ,it was not worth the trouble.

Julie, you have it wrong, the rack can carry the spare tire. Aaron and I have talked about a holder for the tire that would mount on the rack. When Aaron first anounced his idea about a rack, I called and told him my idea of of the tire rack. The main reason for the tire rack is if you have a flat when you are on a trip, you have to remove your luggage to get to the spare. I asked him if he ever had a flat when it was raining, it can be a mess. With the spare on the rack you keep your trunk closed and not exposed to the weather.

I would think a flat bar to go under the rack with a threaded rod and another flat bar on top of the tire ,tightened down with nuts would hold a spare.Just be careful not to scratch the trunk lid.Just try to not ride a 1000 mi. like this.

Talking about crime waves. Anyone missing valve stem caps lately? These chrome things seem to be very popular among car owners

doubutsu, I think Aaron said they were 316 Stainless Steel. That's about $0.93 per pound in the Chicagoland area. The closer you get to the bigger citys the higher the crime rate goes. We've a big increase in scrapers sealing lately. They'll come in your back yard and steal your Central A/C Unit and you might find it down the street all torn apart missing the copper condensing coil. Businesses and Churches have to install chainlink fences around thiers with 3 strands of barb wire on the top. Leroy

Everyone is being way to paranoid. Put the rack on your car when you need it and enjoy it. Don't you have insurance? I do, and it will cover the theft of a trunk rack, just like wheels, or anything else. My rack arrived yesterday, anxious to see what it looks like on my Cashmere. When pulling it out of the box, I am glad I got it. It's much nicer in person than the photos. Will only use it for travel, but when I do, I'm not going to worry about it, it's going to serve a very useful purpose.
