I always park my car away from other cars, make sure it gets the dirt wiped off before putting the cover on etc, anything to keep it looking nice. Here it was, parked with lots of room all around it in the garage of my condo building, cover on since the first of December. Yesterday I wanted to drive it to work so I take the cover off and there is a HUGE dent ($1,250 worth of damage) to my driver's door. No note, nothing. I take it to a body shop, the inspector tells me it looks like someone fell into it. I think he's crazy, how could falling against a car cause that much damage. Then as I am driving back to my parking space I see that the car parked on my driver's side has a handicapped plate. The man walks with a cane. So what happens when I get this fixed, $500 out of my pocket, and he falls again?? No one will ever admit to doing it. And the police said they couldn't do anything about it but take a report. I'm so upset.

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Linda, I would at least ask him about it. Even if he denies it (which I have no designs he won't do just that) at least you put him on notice that you suspect him and perhaps he will be more careful in the future ... Just a thought as I don't know the particulars of the personalities.

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
I did leave a note on his car -- it was the same one I put on the bulletin board asking if anyone had any information and saying that I did file a police report and there was an ongoing investigation -- I didn't say that it was me who was doing the investigating. I just don't want this to happen again after it's fixed. I'm also a little put out about the reaction I got from the building manager, it was like oh well, things happen.

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Linda, I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your car, I'd be just as distressed. I agree with you, it doesn't sound like someone just falling into the car would cause that kind of damage. I'd speculate someone ran into it with their car and didn't leave a note, or someone deliberately damaged it out of jealousy sinced a covered car is obviously a nice car and well cared for. I hope it looks brand new after the repair, others here have had their TVB cars repaired and said you can't tell the car has been damaged before. I hope you find out who did it and they're held accountable for it.PK- 2002 Premium Blue/Full Accent/Whisper White Top

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Thank you all, it's just so frustrating. I can't move into another space, that was the first thing I asked but when you buy the condo, you buy the space and they won't let you move. I was so happy to get a place that had a garage space!
The dent is very strange, it's not creased as if something like a car hit it, it's rounded at the bottom and then gets smaller as it goes up past that indention and the car was covered so there are no scratches. Plus there are two posts at the front and back of my space so it would be hard for a car to get angled in like that. I'll let you know what the Geico inspector says about it on Tuesday.

Linda - just a thought - does your garage have a surveillance camera? If so, I'd be going back through the files with a fine-tooth comb! Sorry for the guy with the cane, but if he caused the damage, there's NO excuse for not owning up!

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Sounds like a power vacuum may have hit the car. Does the bldg maint. dept use a self propelled power vac to to clean the parking area?
From the reaction you expressed of the bldg. manager sounds like they probably very well know how the dent may have happened. And that REALLY makes for a sticky situation!Mike

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Frustrating I know but it's the risk you must take if you use the car.
Since it's almost inevitable that any car will get some rock chips and scratches at some point, I've pretty much gotten to the point that all I really ever look at anymore is used vehicles. Saves you a bunch of money and doesn't hurt quite as bad when that first chip or scratch does happen.

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Linda - I just called my Mom as they live in a condo building in assigned parking and have had someone hit another car. The person did admit to doing it and the damage was covered - but she said to go to the condo Board. If you took pictures all the better, but state your case and inform them of the details. Tell them that you assumed that the parking garage was safe for your car when you bought the unit, and also had the added protection of a car cover - but still someone caused damage to your car. Ask them what they are going to do about the situation. They may cover your deductible at least.
Good luck & sorry that this happened to you. As others have said though, they body shop will make it as good as new. Maybe you should add bumper pads on the side of your car cover to give your neighbor a hint!

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
I don't think any condo board would cover a damaged car. Most condo's have a high deductible ,mine has $5K .I'm on the BOD at my condo assoc. and this would open a can of worms for future claims and who pay's -the owners. This sounds more like a size 10-12 shoe kicking in a door for some reason.sigpic

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
It might be a shoe, I don't know why someone would do that but you never know. I'll try to take some pictures and see what you think. Won't be able to download until Monday. Thank you all so much for your suggestions and concern -- I don't have many friends who understand my devotion to this car.

Re: They Get You One Way or the Other.
Sorry to hear about your problem - I would be heartbroken. I did have a problem myself with the Hemi Charger sometime this or last week. We've had snow/sleet, etc. so have been taking the Charger to work except for one day. There was so much salt/sand/gunk on the car you could barely see the inferno red color. Yesterday, Mike took her out to wash (same treatment as the baby bird, hand wash, no car wash for the girls). Next thing you know he's in the house telling me that Ruby had damage on the passenger side. Explains why I didn't see it. I go outside to look and there is a scratch going from the rear tire almost to the bumper.
I park in an indoor garage at work, usually in a handicap space. The security guys all know my car and I've been working there almost 11 years. I plan on addressing the issue with them when I get to work tomorrow. I know they won't be able to do anything except possibly step up the patrols in the garage. When the weather breaks and little red comes out more regularly I'll get it fixed.
VERY aggravating. But, I'm glad it wasn't the little Tbird.
