I must be a loser. My first car, the Mustang II, was on that list also. Loved that car....

Our son is also a big Mustang II fan - they were very affordable in the 80s (wonder why). He's quite happy tinkering with his (but he just bought an 05 Mustang last year)

If anyone was going to drive this T-Bird, it was platinum-haired women prone to carrying small dogs wherever they go

            Hey!!! I resemble that remark....

I should post the dragrace pictures I took of George, or recorded the comments from the driver instructor at Hallet or the ambulance drivers watching the guys go around at the track at Hallet - that pulled out their stop watches when they realized some were putting the 'birds thru their paces there. Paul might expound on those if he sees this thread.

If it was such a piece of junk why is the Mustang II front end such a popular suspension set up for custom built classic cars and trucks?

I have to agree with texasbird. Friend of mine bought what was left of my son's after it was rear-ended just for the front end to "upgrade" his '56 F100 street rod. I guess maybe sometime the writers just rehash other opinions and don't really drive what they talk about or talk to those of us who own and drive these "worst" cars.

Now I know why I don't read or subscribe to Car and Driver magazine. I'll stick with "Motor Trend" and "Automobile". Our "Thunderbirds" are going to be the "Harry Trumans" of automobile history, underappreciated in their time, but greatly admired and, dare I say, loved in the years to come! Let's hear it for the '02-'05 Birds, WE LOVE 'EM!

Well, I love the car! drives great and looks great. Car and driver is trying to sell magazines.

                        Re: 10 Worst Cars

Just did a some internet searches and came to a startling conclusion.
Prices are staying up for a used 7 year old car - retail for an 02 is running from $16,000 and up depending on mileage and condition - highest I saw was $36K for a low mileage NM. That's a good report card. Even trade in is over 10K for a very high mileage car in good shape. Customer ratings are still high.

                        here's my conclusion:
Maybe these articles are all tongue in cheek because the authors don't earn enough to afford a pleasure car and they're trying to drive the price down to a range they can afford for a used car.

How can a car go from Motor Trend Car of the Year to 10 worst cars?

Wes, they didn't in MT's eyes. It's Car and Driver dising MT's list.

5bird7, I wish I could agree but I've watched the prices of these cars steadally drop in the last couple of years. I think one of the best indicaters is Ebay. Right now you can buy an 02 for under 10K and a 05 for under 20K. I have an 04 with under 15K miles on it and under warranty till 2011 and I doubt that I could get more than 17K for it now and that's 10K less than I paid for it two years ago. Leroy
