  • Wheel Polish/Wax

I'd like to get some suggestions and/or TBN member experiences regarding wheel wax for our cars, or any vehicle with chrome wheels. I have never used anything specific on the TBird, mainly because it is a "garage queen", does not get that dirty, and is washed often in season. But I would like to put somethhing on the wheels to protect them now that the car is nearly 7-1/2 years old. Also, I have a daily driver with chrome wheels that I want to protect as well. I'm particularly interested in something that will not only protect them, but maybe not be as susceptible to dirt build up, and would be a little easier to clean. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

on Wheel wax. It can be purchased at auto parts stores as well. I got mine at Advance Auto Parts. It works good but it is not a 8th wonder of the world product.
    Hope that helps.

      Mike:

Thanks. Sounds like it has been a hit with TBN members. Checked on-line reviews too, which were very positive. I'm going toi give it a try. Thanks!

One sure fire way to cut down on brake dust is to change to ceramic brake pads.

I changed to ceramics about 25,000 miles ago and instead of cleaning chrome wheels and whitewalls every other day I now do this about once a month.

I have found that a sealent, not a wax, holds up better than a wax product on my Daytons. And yes, WheelWax is a sealent.

            Rick & Mike:

Thanks for the info. One of our local club members also suggested moving to ceramic brake pads. It sounds like a good alternative.

              Re: Wheel Polish/Wax

I really like WheelWax products. I use WheelWax to keep my wheels crisp and bright. I also use their Extreme Black tire dressing on my tires. It has a matte finish that looks natural, not greasy. It also doesn't sling onto the painted surfaces of the car. In between applications of WheelWax, I use Meguiar's Quik Wheel Detailer to keep the wheels looking like new and free from brake dust.

When using cermic pads are the stock rotors OK or due you have to change them out ?

                  Re: Wheel Polish/Wax

When I installed my ceramic pads last year (front and rear) I had the stock rotors turned and have been using them ever since.

I now have 26,000 miles on the car since then (it is my daily driver) and I have never had a problem. I still have lots of pad left and an inspection of the rotors just last week shows them to be clean and even with no lines or grooves.

                    Re: Wheel Polish/Wax

Thanks to you all. I bought WheelWax, and have only used on my other vehicle so far. The results look great. I'm anxious to see how it holds up under inclement weather circumstances.
