  • Unexplained frequency interference!

Charley drove the Shelby this morning...unlocked with fob, drove off, got home at noon, locked with fob. Went to get in to go out again an hour later...fob does not unlock. Grabbed second fob - still doesn't work. Unlocked manually, drove to destination, fob works fine. Got home. Fob does not work.
I drove Goldi - parked on different side of driveway - fob worked fine. Got home, fob worked to lock, but later cleaned her up, covered her and went to zap the lock from the front porch - won't work. So I go get Moondoggie's fob just to see what's going on (he's parked on the same side of the driveway as the Shelby). Fobs do not work. Expedition parked to the right of Goldi - fobs work for that.
ANY ideas??? This has never happened before, and the cars are in the same position every day.

Puzzling, Elle. I wouldn't think it's the batteries going dead on all 3 a the same time. Do you have any close neighbors?

Try reprogramming your remotes, i would take them to a different location other than your home.
I have 4 remotes for my Thunderbird.
      Good Luck!

Elle, have y'all called T.A.P.S. (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) to see if you have ghost?

Update - still no explanation, but all fobs worked just now. I stood at the front door (closed), pointed all the fobs at their specific vehicles from inside the house, and all worked. There was obviously something jamming the frequencies earlier.

A couple weeks ago this same phenomenom happened in downtown Portsmouth (across the waterfront from Norfolk). No one's remote key fobs worked for a period of 3-4 hours for anyone parked in the historic district. No explanation was ever given for the occurance. Could be military jamming? Largest Naval base in the world here - playing games with the common man?

In retrospect, a military plane flew over the house about 10 minutes before this started today, and that's very unusual. We are not in any flight pattern, either military or otherwise, and it was very low.

Now if this happened to Dot with her uncommon find I would understand it.

The fobs / locks act up on our Windstar only when parked at the local Best Buy. I have noticed this 2 or 3 times there. They work fine any other time. I figure Best Buy is jamming them somehow.

Elle, is there a restaurant nearby that uses cell phone blockers? In NL some restaurants use those things to prevent guests from using cell phones while at dinner. If you park your car nearby none of the locking devices will work. Drive 100 meters further and they do work.

Believe it or not, as I learned about this in all my meteorology training that I got as part of my Air Traffic Control career, with the FAA, but, there are on occasions radiating sun spots, that come from the sun, sometimes known as a solar firestorms, that can, and do, interfere with various frequencies. I have experienced this frequency interference at times watching TV, whereas the picture on the TV (both cable and transmitted signals, especially satellite dishes) will becomes scrambled and distorted intermittently, and then will clear up. These solar storms, coming from the sun, can and do, interfere with any and all types of devices that are receiving and/or transmitted signals, i.e, a land-line telephone, sometimes a cell phone, radios, especially AM radio frequencies, television signals, and can even interfere with a hand-held transmitter that is sending a signal. Walkie-Talkies radios are another good example. This also happens quite often with 'shortwave ham radio' operators, that are talking over long distances half way around the world. It can, and does happen. Always a possibility, who knows..............

There was a sun spot active yesterday but Elle's problem seemed to be really localized.
