Well, now that I've had the 05 MSB a few days, I have some observations about the performance differences. First, let me say that, yes, I know the specs are different, so there should be some differences in power, etc. However, reading the difference in engine and performance specs is a LOT different than actually cruisin' down the road and feeling them! Here's my observations, for the little they're worth:
First, a LOT more power...not just a little bit. Take-off is faster and smoother. Acceleration is a lot better.
Second, it seems to shift gears a lot smoother...very little hesitation between gears like my 02.
Also, it just seems like a smoother ride in general - less noise from the car and the road, better handling, quicker response in all aspects. And (may be just my imagination here, 'cause I got that "new-car euphoria" goin') it also just seems like a more solid-built car. Does that make any sense?!
Now, I'm not knockin' my 02 TR - I loved that car a lot! And, I also think the 02 was somewhat neglected before I got it. I made sure it was kept up on the maintenance really well, but that never really seemed to help in terms of power, smooth ride, etc. Maybe because it was just getting to be an 8-year old car with the typical problems that come with age (like I don't know that already myself).
It just seems that there were a lot of issues that it took Ford a couple of model years to "get right".
I guess it's a lot like that old saying, "If I knew grandkids were so much fun, I'd have had them before my kids!". So, if Ford had sold the 05 back in 02, I'd have bought it first!
All in all, a great little car, and I am very happy with it. On the downside, it ain't red. But MSB is a nice color, too!
