Re: Gov website for free vin checks??
Thank you. I am happy to report that none of my vehicles have been reported as stolen or salvaged. (I guess that I could have simply looked in the garage or driveway. LOL)
No, I just bought a vehicle for my son, and I thought I would try that new site. 18k mile, 2004 Buick Century. Still has handicapped tag on it. Little old lady from Roanoke, Va. Red with all options, including chrome wheels. Prev seller showed me a carfax indicating clean title.

Re: Gov website for free vin checks??
I just ran my Land Cruiser that was stolen last July, and
it reports clear. The truck was paid off by the Insurance
Company and should have shown as a theft recovery.
On well!!
See you in Hot Springs!!

Leave it to the Government to be FAR FAR behind the times. It sholdn't take them a year to update in this day & age. Geesh!!!Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9
Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

This is copied from their web site. It doesn't appear to be a government agency.
(The National Insurance Crime Bureau is a not-for-profit organization that receives support from approximately 1,000 property/casualty insurance companies. The NICB partners with insurers and law enforcement agencies to facilitate the identification, detection and prosecution of insurance criminals.)Please Note.. Any spelling and/or grammer mistakes are copyright of the author.. Mistakes will be numerous and common...

Re: Gov website for free vin checks??
Ins cos are stamping most cars as salvage, rebuilt, or damaged. This is likely the result of a couple of major ins cos getting caught selling salvaged cars and giving them clean titles. Now, most ins cos brand the titles, and the AG general office is relatively happy. You get a fender crunched; you ask agent what it would take to total the car; and bingo. You get rid of car. Then go buy a new car (after taking a hit, of course). Literally and figuratively.
Here is another real kicker. When ins companies report a branded title, they notify the manufacturers. Manufacts then block the warranty, thereby saving a ton of $$. When buying a used car, even from a new car dealer, run a dealer report to see if warranty is blocked. If it is blocked, there is no way to reverse that. Some dealers even refuse to do recalls on vehicles with blocked warranties.
