I think you will be pleasantly surprised with these kits Doug. They really do look OEM . I have the medium burl-wood kit and it complements my sand interior very well. When you do the install, remember to soften up the pieces with a blow drier to make them much easier to work with.

I don't know if the kits were available when our Birds were in production but I do think if they were dealer offered accessory they would have been a big hit.

Where are the stats that show that a dash kit devalues the value of a car? Edmonds?

As a matter of fact, several reviews have put a major "ding" on the overall interior of the car because it is so plain and drab.

The interior is what devalued the car the most in the eyes of reviewers and potential buying public.

You got a really good price, Doug. I'm glad you ordered the kit, and know you will be pleased with it. I posted a reply re this subject in your other thread, but IMO they add tremendously to the interior appearance and should have been OEM. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

I just got off the phone with www.wooddashexperts.com and the salesperson wasn't much help. He didn't know there was a seperate kit for the '02 and wanted to charge me to send sample materials. The online material/color selection charts aren't that good (but I really didn't expect them to be).

CARTOY has a full red interior, custom black/red mats and Lou's headrest and visor covers in red. I have the brushed aluminum dash and full kit that I bought years ago, it's not wearing well, and I'm ready to replace it.

Claude who is the person I should talk with at www.wooddashexperts.com? I'm ready to buy from them...I just don't know which material I want. Hopefully I'll be looking at it for a long time to come!

Sally, really surprised to hear this, that dash kit really looked sharp in your red car last time I saw it. One member reported yellowing, is that what has happened with yours?
Now I am beginning to wonder if it might be the cleaning products member use that are damaging these or is it just the kit itself that is inferior?

I loved the look of the original TBird. However over time it began to look to me, unfinished for a classy car. So the more I added the better it began to look , well to me anyway. I never plan to sell it so I don't really care about resale prices with upgrades vs original. All I care about is how it looks to me. You can add what you like, or not, you can drive it, or not. I enjoy my Bird and love to show it off and drive it every chance I get. Enjoy yours, have fun life is to short.

Over time the plastic especially where your fingers touch it often will start to discolor. On my 2002 when they replaced the radio it never matched the existing dash pieces just right. Even on my 2003 the radio panel isn't identical to the rest of the dash. I think just about any covering (aside from the foil) would be an improvement especially over the center stack.

I think some of those kits have the extra panels for both the 2002 AND the 2003-05

On a side note I always love how much controversy this topic causes!!!

I will bet that the brushed aluminum material is not aluminum and is actually wallpaper like the $125.00 wood dash kits are wallpaper. see my post above.. Jon

PowerSportscar had a dash kit that exactly matched the factory metal trim for your model year... I believe they got the excess metal from Ford. I used to play with the idea pf getting one. Pricey, but a cool idea.

Now, I have a question... maybe a dumb question, as I've never tried this sort of thing, or even tried to remove the panels. But... would it be posisble to remove the panels of the center stack, have them refinished to suit (e.g., a glossy color to match the enamel of an interior accent on the shifter and steering wheel), then put them back in... and expect them to fit? Are the tolerances light enough so that there's room to play with?

I've always wanted a black gloss to match the shifter and steering wheel, but I didn't want it to look "applied." Anybody have any experience with this approach?

I had the section with the AC controls replaced and the color of it in a PCR is gray not black. Gray was no longer available. I asked about swapping face plates but was told it is a sealed unit and could not be replaced.
I guess you could mask off all the buttons and spray, but I would be concerned about spray getting inside the unit.

John, the top air vent is the only piece that comes apart so it could be painted.
