Hi, I took the trunk cover in to the shop, they used that for the pattern. the edges are smooth, they did a great job. I was having the oil changed at a firestone store and three workers were looking at the trunk, one came in to the waiting room and said they thought it look really cool. He had not seen a t-bird up close and thought it came from Ford that way

Charles, that mod looks soooooo good!
When I bought my NM wheels, I bought an extra. So, I'm thinking whenever I need new tires, I may buy 5 instead of 4, and do the same as you. I doubt I would use a plexiglass cover, however, for fear of it getting scratched (even though it looks incredibly great). But, I don't understand how the plexiglass appears in the pics to be level, if the tire is about 1-1/2" higher than the donut? Is the cover actually raised in the center?

Marilyn, If you look at the well cover on yours, you will notice it dips into the well. It probably dips about the amount of the standard tire width, so a cover will fit flat. Realize though when you do that, that your trunk packing space has just lost about 2" of height. If you travel, it's a big deal. If you don't, then not much to worry about other than if you use the car for shopping.

Thanks, Dot. I hadn't remembered that the cover dips. I don't travel or shop in my T-Bird, so the amount of trunk space is insignificant to me. However, having to possibly drive someday with that donut on may be worth the expense of an extra tire and new cover. On the other hand, because I drive it so little, I'll have to give this more thought (when it comes time to buy tires). At least I'm glad to know a standard tire will fit in the well.

Marilyn, Deb and I just got back from a trip to Oklahoma, I placed a heavy trash can liner over the plexiglass and then fit the luggage (no scratches to the plexiglass)
Good idea, Charles. I can't get over how pretty it looks!!! I bet everyone who looks in your trunk is impressed.
What kind of a shop did you go to for the plexiglass?

Charles, Did you get one of those new trunk racks & use it, or did you manage to squeeze everything you needed into the trunk?
Dot, I left things at home. When it's just me on a trip I can take my guitar and other things but with a another person space becomes tight. The rack looks great might get one
I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Before I order another tire my question is does the Diamondback 235/55 ZR 17 fit in the well being a higher profile or is the tire in the picture that size? I don't have access due to winter storage to try and fit one in the trunk. As with a lot of you I would like to loose the donut. Oh! I opened myself up to Rusty with that one

Dick, the tire is the standard tire size that comes on our cars, if you check my gallery you will see a picture of how my trunk looks now, I had it done in leather and a cover made for the plexeglass to show only the tire.
Thanks Michael for the reply. I have checked your picts and will use them as a guide. The stock tire size is 235/50 17 and I went with the 235/55 because I wanted the 2" wide white with the raised edge. What I don't know is the difference in diameter as I don't have the old tires. I thought that someone here may have that info. If it won't fit in the well I won't spend the money on an extra rim and another tire.
