    New OEM Tires

    Hi everyone. I just got my new OEM tires put on today and when I came home and lowered the tire pressure to 30 and noticed that they were not V95's. They ended up getting the H96's instead and installed although ordered the V95's.
    I started checking on the difference and see that they are rated for speeds of 130 (not a problem for me) instead of 149. Total weight load 1521 on V95 and 1565 on H96.
    I was quoted a price for the V95's before I ordered, and know the H96 costs more, so they must of been a substitute. I also know the tread life will not last as long.
    Other than that should I be concerned?

    I bet the H rated tires last as long or longer than the V rated ones. Generally, a V rated tire will be a softer compound and have a little stiffer sidewall than an H rated tire. Are you sure the H rated tire costs more than the V rated? It is usually just the opposite.

    I don't think you notice any major difference in the two if you don't push the car hard into corners much, but if you are a spirited driver on twisty roads then you could notice a little loss of grip.

      The Michelin Pilot HX MXV4 H rated tire is rated the same for treadwear, traction, and heat as the V rated tire and does cost a few dollars more. That is a somewhat a surprise for there is usually a fairly large difference between an H rated and V rated tire with the Vs costing more. In theory the H rated tires should be a little less sticky so maybe you might see a very slight increase in MPG.

        Did you replace your tires because of wear or the age of the original tires?

          I replaced the tires because of age. They where cracking. There was lots of tread left though, but with the cracks and age (over the recommended 6 years) I replaced them.

              According to a TV report that was aired late last year, 4 years from date of production should be the maximum. Make sure that the tires you are buying are current production. date. Sometimes hard to find, four digit number indicating month and year. Just because tires are new to you, they may have been on the rack for longer. Time starts from date of production not installation.

                      The date when manufactured on the OEM Michelin tires are easy to read. Here is a picture. My new tires were made the 39th week(last week in Sept.) 2008. I even heard some countries are starting a five year tire replacement law. The tire companies in North America do not want this to happen over here.
