Airbag Light

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2002 Thunderbird. The other day, I sped up to 80 to pass a car, and my airbag light came on. It won't come on if I turn on the car and not sit in the drivers seat.

I called a couple of dealerships and they each gave me a different diagnosis, each costing $500-800. I don't want to get ripped off.

Any suggestions?

Find a competant independant automotive electric guy. These cars are not antiques, lots of mechanics can fix them

Welcome, Sanaz. Good luck on the problem. There are other threads about airbag lights if you use the search tab. Most say it's either a clockspring malfunction in the steering column or a mircoswitch located under the seats, but I don't see how speed would be a factor in either problem.

On a side note, we get together occasionally in the Plano or North Central Expy. Corridor area. Keep checking the Texas Chapter threads for an update on a dinner outing with the T-Birds.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I am going to try the wires under the seat before I take it in to a dealer. I don't know any decent car shop in the Dallas area!

I will into the North Texas group for the outing. It sounds like fun!

Same thing is happening to our car. Took it to the ford dealer and they said gec is bad,500 to 700 hundred bucks. is that possible?

Mine did the same thing .. turned out to be the connector under the driver's seat was dirty and not making a good connection. My dealer just cleaned it and it's been fine since.
