  • using the h/t stand on a windy day

First, I know this will not be a typical situation and the stands are commonly kept in the garage. I'm thinking about how to be prepared when displaying the hardtop off the car during a car show and an unexpected breeze or gusts of wind stir up. Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, when using the hardtop stand outside on a breezy/windy day. How susceptible is the stand to tipping when air movement increases? Should I be concerned?

I'd be concerned. You wouldn't want it to tip over into someone else's show car let alone yours - and it could tip if the wind caught it just right. or stand could roll and hit another car if you're on blacktop.

If the wind starts up, you may have to just install the top back on the car. The only time I've ever taken the hardtop stand for the top is to an indoor show.

Always be concerned Kevin, windy or not windy. It is a 2 person job to put on or remove the hard top and it never hurts to have a 3rd person behind the stand to hold it steady. If you want the hard top off during a car show, just leave it home.

        Hey Kevin,

Julie is right - the stands aren't really that stable under the best of conditions. The caster locks have never worked on mine.

When we picked up our 2003 '007', the first thing I did was remove the casters from the stand and throw them out. Picked up four good casters at 'home depot' with proper locks and decent rolling wheels and installed them on the stand. Just rolls and locks beautiful now.

What size did you get, and were they dual wheel or single?
Yep, Ford sure saved a lot of money by taking the casters off all the office chairs and computer stands for our HT carts.

You kiddin? The casters on any office chairs or computer stands are better than the ones on the hardtop stand.

I thought I was the only one with junk casters on the HT stand.............

                    Kevin:

How about a nice 8X10 photo of the car with the top on displayed somewhere near the car to verify that you do have a hardtop? Easier to carry or store. And more storage room inside the car without it.

I would guess they are about 4" wheels and all lock up for storage. About $10.00 each approx.

Russell here's one with free shipping, but still may be too expensive. I don't know what the average cost is. Hopefully a member has one for less.
