  • It was BOUND to happen...

a scratch. And I hear it is still illegal to kill your mother. grrr. The TBird was in the garage, minding her own business....and my mother put the mop back in its holder...but NOT PROPERLY...and when she went back into the house, the entire RACK tumped over and the mops and all hit the back end/bumper of the car.

So, I now have a scratch...about six inches long...on the bumper. PLEASE suggest the way I can remove this hideous deformity!!!! It isn't all the way through....I would classify it as a "medium density scratch"...but I've not dealt with this type of thing before!!!

First give your mom a hug, throw the holder out in the trash. Take a bottle of touch up paint with you to a body shop near you and let them make it better. If there is a member that is close, they might be able to help. I am to far away. Good luck.

Carolyn - first - DON'T use touch-up paint. It will stick out and say "HEY LOOK - I'M SCRATCHED"! Bronze does not adapt well to touch-ups. If it's really minimal, you might be able to compound it out, but my guess is, you may have to have it repainted. Breathe in, breathe out - I've had to do it twice to Goldilocks. No one knows the difference - great body shop at Freedom Ford.

It might only be thru the clearcoat (if you are lucky). If so, try Simonize Clear Coat Scratch Repair Pen. It's not magic but close!

Or Meguiar's Scratch X might work too.

Bummer Carolyn. I had my Black parked in a tree when I backed it up two years ago it was really scratched heavily. Took it to my dealer and they never repainted it, but got it all out by heating it up and polishing it. They had to remove the bumper completely for it. Not sure if that works on Bronze, but it's worth asking first.

              Carolyn:

A good bodyshop will charge you around $350 to remove and repaint the bumper cover to match your bronze. It is a hard color to match as Elle said. If the scratch isn't all the way through to primer they may be able to wet sand the cover and then just clear coat it. If they can, it should only cost you about $250 because the bronze paint is over $100 itself.

Make sure that it is a shop that will remove and replace the cover rather than one that suggests just masking off and painting it on the car. That will not work as the rolled edges of the fenders and cover will eventually chip and break away.

              Good luck.

                Carolyn,
My husband did the same thing a couple of years ago with a broom (leaned it up against the wall, walked away, and it fell with the handle hitting my car). LUCKILY it did no damage, but I'm pretty sure I almost passed out. He said he thought I was going to divorce him if he hurt the car!

...and its really not nice referring to your mother as a "hideous deformity".

Do your homework and find a first class body shop who will match your paint color perfect ... Good Luck and Keep Us posted.

As I have said before so many times, go ahead and get it fixed. Otherwise every time you look at the back of your car you will be sick and you will will ALWAYS notice it when others don't.

thanks...will try the scratch stuff first, but will prob have the body shop take care of it...our Ford body shop repaired my Mustang once and did a great job.

Carolyn check a company if they are in your area Colors on Parade.(that maybe there www.) A rep. came to my condo to work on a car ,they had a dent in the bumper bigger than a softball .He heated it filled and repainted the area and it looks good. Also check with your local car dealers they have people that go from dealer to dealer for small scratches.

Good plan - a lot of 'expert' advice - and I know one person in particular who will be able to assess the situation with a good eye (not me).
