  • Front Strut Bar to Strengthen Front End

    Hi:

I have a front strut bar that connects the 2 front shock towers on my Maxima. It reduces some of the body flex. It allowed the car to flex less, and turn in faster on a curve. Mine is aluminum and fits nicely between the engine and hood.

I have not found any of the Retro Bird owners using them.

The only one I could find anywhere was a Lincoln LS owner custom-built one for his car.
Here's the link. Scroll down to the engine picture.

Did Lincoln ever put on one their V-8 LS models?

Anyone sell one for a Retro Bird?

Anyone have one or have any interest in one?

    Thanks

I really doubt you'll find one out there.

I have one on an old Corvette but this is a car I've upgraded seriously with some very fat tires, front and rear fiberglass transverse springs and large stabilizer bars........not to mention seriously sticky tires. The car turns like it's on rails and sticks in the corners like eggs to a cheap skillet..........and even so............I'm not sure the car wasn't already doing just fine without it.

I'm gonna suggest the Retro birds just don't really need one and that as much as anything else is why you can't find one.

There is an awful lot of aluminum under these cars already. For a "rag top" these are already pretty solid cars by anyone's standards.

When you consider the amount of body roll and the soft compliant ride here.........these cars aren't really the stuff of "auto cross" anyway are they?

      These are cruisers.

Are you sure you aren't looking to make the car into something it isn't here?

Re: Front Strut Bar to Strengthen Front End

There are no plans to race Cashmere. Still, anything to reduce flex is always appreciated. Tha's why my old Lincoln Continental had a strut bar of sorts....and why Ford puts one in the Bullit Mustang and the new Mustangs with a track pack option.

It's most adviseable for front wheel drive cars where the front has to both pull and steer. Besides, they look cool in chrome.

The T-Bird has a strut bar of sorts tucked in under the forward lip of the cowl molding. I'm not sure another one six inches more forward at the strut tops would help much, but if one were available I'd sure try it as the cowl shake on rough roads bugs me.

I can just see the mortified expression on the garage queen owners faces :-)
