The passenger door does not unlock when I park the car (the drivers door does unlock). Not particularly handy. It's an 02. Is that how it's designed to work?

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

As Julie stated, thats the way it should work if using the fob and if using the botton on the drivers door they should both unlock at the same time.Last edited by Gobird; Jun 25, 2009, 02:56 PM.They are Here. Scotty, beam me up!IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE Visit the TBN Store Visit the TBN Store

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

Neither of mine unlock when put in park. Never have, simply pull the handle to get out and it unlocks. Same for the passenger side. If you need to unlock it for someone to get in, use the power locks. I thought all Fords operated like that.sigpicBradford + TOTM April 2009 05 Thunderbird Cashmere #702 /1500 , ' 04 Acura TL, '79 Buick Electra Limited, Landau Coupe, '67 Mustang Convertible

That is SOP.Originally posted by itza65 View PostThe key fob seems to works fine. However, when I stop the car and place it in park, only the drivers door unlocks...

Why would you want the passenger's door to unlock? If you have a passenger, the button to unlock is right there on the door. Otherwise it's a good safety feature to have only the driver's door unlock automatically.

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

My 05 Mustang unlocks both doors when the the key is turned off (it's a 5 speed so there is no "park") so I thought that maybe the 02 Tbird would work the same way.Originally posted by Bradford View PostNeither of mine unlock when put in park. BTW, I see you have a 67 Mustang convertible. I have a 70 Mustang convertible that will be coming out of the restoration shop next week. Woo-hoo!

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

So, here's what happens at my house. The car is in the garage parked with the keys in the ignition when there was not a passenger so the door is locked. Next time the car is used, the passenger wants to open the door or I want to put my briefcase on the passenger seat but the door is locked. I guess I'll get used to it. My other cars unlock the passenger door when parked.Originally posted by bronzebird View PostThat is SOP.

Thanks for everyone's help. I didn't know if that was how it was designed to work or not.

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

I can understand your frustration Kent .When I'm driving the Caddy I go to pick up my gal ,put it in park and both doors open. When I use the T-Bird I pull up put it in Park and sometimes forget .She's standing there and then I remember. The sun is hot and strong in S.Fl. so there are no points for doing this :sun: :flames:sigpic

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

You can reprogram the locks so they do not lock when you put the car into gear, a simple procedure that is in the owners manual and also available here when you use the search.

A problem I have had show up again, the drivers door does not unlock electronicly, (remote or door switch), the buttton tries to pop up but does not quite get to the unlock position (works fine with the key), anyone have a solution for that? I just got the shop manuals for the car yesterday, found the door lock section but have not had time to go through to see what makes the mechanism actuate, have had it do this a few times in the past but starts working again when it feels like it.

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

We just recently had to have our dealer replace the lock actuator in the passenger door because the door locks would not unlock using the unlock button on the fob or the driver's door unlock button. It was not cheap (mostly labor). They had to take the door apart to replace the lock actuator, and it took a day to do the work.Jerry & Kim's

 Re: DOOR LOCK QUESTION

Kent... now I understand. I always back my Bird into the garage so the driver's side is always handy. If I drove in frontwards I would probably be frustrated about not being to access the passenger side as well.Originally posted by itza65 View PostSo, here's what happens at my house.
