  • Want to Buy 04 PCR - How much to pay?

    Hey Guys:

I am looking to buy a nice 04 PCR and was wondering about price.

What would you say the going rate for a nice one is with, say, 25-35K miles?

I've seen dealer (and some private) ads for, generally, $22K-$26K with these miles. Is this reasonable or can they be had for less than this? Guidance appreciated.

Also, did I hear right that some PCR's had paint problems?

    Thanks in advance - Roger

I did not purchase a PCR, but a 2004 blue with sand apperance Pkg, new top and boot w/ 26000 miles. This vehicle was purchased in SAN ANTONIO for about 23000 3 months ago. New top because someone had cut a hole in the original. This was for my daughter and she now loves it. So $$ do not always make the difference on our retro birds. She liked the color over silver or black. The other color she wanted was merlot w/ sand. If this helps you on purchase, great.

Roger, If you find one, look for wear on the seats and stains on the soft top, for openers. Other things is make sure you get the original window sticker and a clean CarFax report. Don't let the seller know you're just interested in a PCR. If you're happy with the condition and everything checks out, buy it if the price is right. If you're concerned about future problems, have the car inspected by a Ford dealer for a premium care warranty, I will cost you, but if it passes you can get a good warranty for 48000 miles or 4 years. If the car is under an existing warranty it might be transferable to you also. I think a fair price for a well cared for 04 PCR might be in the 20K to 25K range. Just my 2 sence. Leroy

          Roger,

There's a PCR here locally for sale at the Chevy dealer. Owner traded it in on a new Corvette. It's got 27,000 miles and they're asking $22,900.

I've never had any paint issues. You do have to give extra care to the seats, because they are light colored, and the "preferred suede" can't be cleaned as easily as leather.

As with all of the lighter colored Tbird tops, they require more attention than the black tops. You can find lots of information on this site regarding top care.

My ownership experience with the PCR has been great. Good luck in your search.

          Chuck

In today's market a 2004 should not be more than $21 or $22,000 tops...

I bought #723 in San Antonio in January of this year. It was VERY clean, 26K miles and well maintained, clean Carfax, (hardtop, stand and kit). I paid $19,500.

              Great car! Love it!

There is a PCR at Huntington beach ford. price $21,990. I considered it for a while but passed after learning the dealership has a poor reputation. Also they didn't present the car very well. It was dirty, broken parts, and the seats were starting to fuzz and ball up. I didn't want my first T-bird experience to be a bad one. I ended up with a merlot/sand in good shape. You will find one. Just be patient and watch ebay, carmax, and local dealers. The one chuckster pointed out seems promising. Good luck.

Re: Want to Buy 04 PCR - How much to pay?

We had fabulous luck getting our 2004 VMG from a private individual via Auto Trader this year. I don't remember the final cost, but I remember it undercut all the dealers. I will ask dear hubby what the bottom line was after all was said and done. (I hate wheelin' and dealin' $$$ so I leave that to him!)

Bear in mind, it took us a couple of years of patient agony to find exactly the car we wanted, and then hubby had to fly to California on a moment's notice to fetch Julep and drive her home. Fortunately, Southwest flew there so it wasn't too outrageous, but we must add airfare into the final cost. We also paid to have her inspected by a mechanic on that end. Plus a couple tanks of gas to drive her home, of course!

Bottom line, if your heart is set on that year and color of car (as mine was), then patience and persistence is the key. Also, we prefer buying from private individuals over dealerships. Don't forget Craigslist as a source, and there are sites now where you can "multiple search" all the Craigslist classifieds at once for a particular car by year/make/model. Huge time-saver.

One note re: Auto Trader and like sites...sometimes whoever enters the car's info online is way off with the colors. I've seen the Desert Sky labeled "green," and the 007 coral called "red." Plus other assorted errors. I'd suggest leaving the color preference blank just in case your car is there but mistakenly listed as the wrong color. Just a tidbit I've learned from my obsessive search for Julep...

excellent advice about the color 1mintjulep. I've found the same thing. colors are sometimes not correct.

There appears to be three on Ebay right now. One with a Buy-IT-Now of $14980.00 and one that's not listed as a PCR, but I think it is? Item # 2505151556795. Leroy

The one on Ebay for $14,980.00 or best offer Item # 260491720038 has been lowered to $12,980.00 or best offer. They say the trans. is not shifting properly? The pictures of it look pretty good for a car with over 107K miles. It's number 333 of 1000. Might be worth an offer. It's in Gainsville, Fla. Leroy
