  • Suspicious 2002 Bird

Found this 2002 Bird on E-Bay. 17K miles one owner lady driven.Has always lived it's life in Fla. Noticed the front license frame,Fla does not have front tags. Am I being too suspicious? I guess a CarFax would answer the question

we bought our 05 from a Florida dealer, mid-state, and they had front plate holders in stock. They sold a number of their birds out of state.

One owner=retired snowbird, hence, the front tag.

I own a home in the Fl Keys, but Goldi was purchased here in Va. If we ever move down there permanently, not much I can do about her front plate holder. MD is a different story...he's still flying under the radar here in Va.

It could've had some vanity plate on the front. I would get the CarFax anyway though. Bid up to over 18K, is more than I would've thought it would get to in these times. The seller doesn't appear to be a Ford dealer and the existing Warranty is the dealers two month or 2000 mile warranty. I didn't see nor did they mention the stand or cover for the hard top. Personally, I wouldn't touch it for that kind of money from a used car dealer Leroy

Quite a few dealers always stick the tag holders on the car with their dealer advertising plate on there. I always make it clear up front not to put the bracket or any other dealer info on my car before delivery.

I bought a new Lincoln in South Carolina this March and all the dealer cars in stock had front plate holders on them with the dealer ad. I made them remove it and refinish the front bumper before I would take delivery.

This is the response I received from the seller when I asked where the car was titled. I guess a vanity plate could have been on the front.

: Ron, This Bird has lived its entire life in Florida. It was lady owned and driven. The car is immaculate and sitting on our new car showroom floor! There is less than 48 hours left on the ebay auction. You can either bid and try to win it that way or call me direct at 813-739-2497 to discuss a Buy It Now figure. One identical this one sold for $23k and change recently on ebay and I can sell this one below that mark! Thank you in advance, Billy E Fleming 813-739-2497

I noticed that one on eBay yesterday as well. I guess maybe it is the angle of the shot, but that license plate holder looks hideous!

I would think if the holder was put on by the dealer; they would already have their advertising plate on it.

...In Canada affixing the front license plate bracket is part of the dealer prep. on a Lexus for instance....which causes problems for dealer transfers to this single plate province...the few Amerispec NewBirds I've seen imported here have their front brackets installed.

I'm suspicious by nature and this shows I was right. The seller was not completely honest.
The only other explanation is that the owner was a snowbird and purchased the car up north and kept it in Florida. Maybe some one has a good explanation.

It was purchased in Delray Beach, FL in 06/2002; It was then registered in Rhode Island in 7/2004 with 10,600 miles; When it returned to FL it had recorded 15,800 miles by 1/2007. It was registered in Apollo Beach, FL until it was acquired by AutoWay Ford in St. Petersburg on 9/15/2009. The report is free of any negative history and mileage averaged 2,200 miles per year.
