  • Sun Visor Removal

For those who have been reading about my recent interior makeover, some of you have already touched on my next "mod". I want to cover those pathetic sun visors in order to make them look half decent - this was going to be done originally when I had the interior done, but my upholsterer ran out of time.

Thanks to the wonders of this great forum, I am now reviewing the instructions to remove our Retrobird sun visors.

    http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...ight=sun+visor

    Basic questions:

    1) If I am reading the instructions correctly, you must first remove the center windshield moulding which then leads to accessing the sun visor bracket and screws - is this piece easy to remove? Any tips?

    2) Has anyone successfully removed and reinstalled their sun visors and if so, any general warnings/tips?

    Thanks in advance to all.

Wish I had a tip for you, Mark. Watched the windshield installer remove the trim and it appeared easy but I can't remember exactly what he did. Should have had the video running when he did it.

I think it might be the same shroud that you remove when you do the hardtop adjustment. If that is indeed the one, it simply snaps off and on.

Mark, Yes I have removed the sunvisors many times.

The moulding piece just snaps in so CAREFULLY pull down on it and it will unsnap. It snaps in about three diffent area. Once that moulding is off, you will see the medal holder and three screws holding the sunvsior on. Unscrew the the whole holder and sunvisor will come off easily. Nooooooooo problem. Bunny Lou

Am I missing something? If its just the visor you want to remove on my PCR they just slid off the rod they are attached to. You just have to twist them a little and pull and they come right off.

              Sal

You cannot get the visor out of the rod holder unles you actually bend the rod a little and sometimes in breaks the rod, so the safe way is to take it apart and then you are not putting any stress on the rod. Lou

Thats not true Lou...well, not true for my '04.
All you have to do is wiggle the visor a little to the left (to the right on the passenger side) it will move enough to take it out of the rod holder. Then you just swing it out and pull it off....it was very easy. I had them on and off many times.

Hmmm with the way Lou describes why can't they be changed for a visor with an arm that swings to the side window ??

I did that with mine a couple of times, now it pops out every time I hit a bump. I was ready to gorilla glue it but now may take it apart to see if I can fix it.

Sal you can do as you said if you have a loose fit. Most of the rods are considerable tighter to the degree that you must actually bend the rod a little to get it out of the holder. However if you are not carefull when bending it to dislodge the end out of the holder, then you damage the rod.
I have pulled some out like you have said also, but others are so tight you must do it the way I explained. Lou

John if yours is popping out at the end where the rod fits into the holder.
Pull it out and wrap electrical tape around the very end to make the rod thicker and force it back in the holder carefully. Now if it is the other side
where the Rod is apart of the holder, by taking it apart you may be able to tighten up the holder when you remove the screws holding it on. Look to see if the rod has been bent from pulling down on it when you tried to get it out of the holder clip. Lou
