  • Red hard top for sale

Okay, I am going to pretend that I know what I am talking about. But, I really don't, because I do NOT have a hard top for my 03 RED Bird. That is by choice, since I do not feel the need for a hard top in Florida.
That said, and I will try to be brief, I will tell you about my experience today. I was out shopping for additional door prizes for my T Bird cruise scheduled for November 7th. In the parking lot, a woman approached me in her car admiring my Bird (yes, it happens all the time). She said that she was reminiscing because she used to have an 02 Red Bird like mine, but it was destroyed some time ago by fire at 8,ooo miles, and the insurance company totalled it and settled with her. The hard top was NOT on the car at the time. The RED hardtop has remained stored in the garage, covered. all this time - - it was on the car only once for a very short period when she first acquired the car, and never put back on again. She thinks that it is on a stand ( but not really sure). I told that I did not have a hard top. She asked if I wanted to purchase it. I declined, (I have no place to store it, and no one to help me remove it and put it back on). She asked if I knew any way that she could find a buyer.
I told her about E-Bay, Craigs List and TBN. She asked if I would pass on the information via TBN & I agreed to do it. She has no idea what to ask for it & asked if I would give her a ball park figure. I know NOTHING about hard tops and & I told her that . She again asked me for a tentative price, and I threw out $1500, which she said sounded reasonable. I urged her to try to find out its value through the other sources so that she would know how much to ask.
Okay, the rest is up to you guys who know about hard tops & their re-sale value. She claims that it is "perfect" and
there are NO marks anywhere on it, headliner in excellent condition, portholes fine, like new. It is in her garage at her second home near Vidalia, Georgia. She lives most of the time in Orlando, FL pretty close to me. She wants very much to "get rid of it" . Meeting me suddenly reminded her that she still had the top stored away.
I have her name and tel. number, but I hesitate to divulge that here publically - just does not seem appropriate to spread her identity around. I spent a great deal of time talking with her. I feel that she is vulnerable and that somebody without scrupples could swoop down and steal this from her. I am not saying that someone should not get a really good killer bargain on this hard top, since she has absolutely no use for it. It only came up because she was complimenting me on my car, and she remembered that the top was stored away in her other house where she rarely ever goes.

Okay, pounce on me. Have at it. I can take it, if you wish to criticize me. Perhaps you would have approached all this differently - -that is fine. Tell me what you think should be the next step. I liked her a lot & want to help her out, but she really is a stranger to me. It was a happy coincidence that we were in the same place at the same time and that I, too, have a RED T Bird and she connected with me. I even told her how TBN members transfer tops in relays from one State to another when the buyer is far moved from the seller. She was very impressed with that ingenuity.
I want this story to have a happy ending - - -both for the seller and the buyer. Who can help me make that happen?

Why would anyone pounce on you or criticize you Tom? I think you should be commended for your very kind offer to help her.

FWIW, I think you handled it perfectly, and the price you suggested is certainly reasonable. Not only that, you didn't have to help her, but you did help her. Nicely done.

          Tom,
You should purchase it for your Bird. Get a hoist for the garage so you can remove or put on the top yourself and when it's off just have it hang here. No need to worry about storage space.
This way it will look like you purchased a new car with the top on. If you don't like the hoist suggestion,I can always stop by to help you lift it on or off.

            Tom,
I say buy the top and give it as a door prize for the Poker Run in November. Bet it will increase your number of registrations.

              Roger - -
Leave it to you to come up with an easy soloution. See, when you say it fast, it sounds great. But, whoa!, slow down. Who will get it here in time? Who will pay for it? Who will call your bluff and and put you in charge of pulling the whole thing off? Nuff said.

Thanks, though, for responding. I know that you mean well. I have a different prize for you at the cruise, but you will have to win it in a little contest that I have planned for you and a few others. Just one of my surprises.

              P. S. Up to 27 cars now. I'll post the list soon.

Roger - - I answered you. However after I fixed a typo error, I clicked on "Go Advanced" and it disappeared. Where did it go? Just what does "Go Advanced" mean?

Re: Red hard top for sale

                    Okay, Ron, let's talk.

Although I have a two car garage, two vehicles pretty much fill it up (plus work bench, storage, freezer, stuff , junk, etc). So, your great idea won't fly. But, I am grateful for your kind offer to help. I still don't think that I would put the hard top on very often.

In the winter I am out more in the convertible than in the summer. But I still use the car in the summer, except that I NEVER leave if there is threat of rain. My bird has NEVER been rained on!!!

So, I still have the dilemma of helping out this lady who wants to sell her RED hard top. There is a great bargain waiting to happen.

Anyone out there interesed in this red hard top? Or, do you know anyone who might want it? Let's hear from you.

I am sure that the price is VERY negotiable.

PM me and I will share the name and tel. number so that you can talk with the owner directly. This is going to be a real bargain for someone.
