  • What do you guys think of swapping the cashmere's grill to chrome?

    Hello

What do you guys think of swapping the front grill of the Cashmere Bird from the matching painted one to a chrome grill like the other colors have? I like the chrome grill and think it would look nice. Are the grills easy to change, would the bumper need to come to do it?

Has anyone done this and if so can they post a picture?

    Thanks for your thoughts

As a cashmere owner, I can understand why you would want to "brighten" up the T-Bird. It is a little monotone.

However, there are other ways to give it a little more chrome while keeping the original looks. You could use the aftermarket chrome around the door tops and where the hardtop bolts on (replacing the mylar strips).

This way, you can keep the unique appearance of a cashmere while raising the bling level. I would consider these changes for my car.

    thanks

That's the only way I would have one!

Not hard to replace but bumper should be removed.

It would be the first change I made in the car if I had one. It is just like adding the chome hood scoop to the other color cars - should have been that way in the beginning as far as I'm concerned.

I have seen it done on at least one TBNers car, but can't remember who it was.

The Cashmere is a gourgeous color and I love the interior. I am not a monotone fan and often thought I would like it even more if it had a chrome grill. The grill doesn't cost that much and doesn't seem that difficult to replace without damaging the old one. I'd go for it.
I have often thought about a tubular grill following the contour of the hood cowling for my car.

There are a number of Retro Bird owners in your area and some are members of this list. so you won't be alone in your area. Good luck in your venture.

I think that would be backwards, but it is your car, do whatever you want. Foxtails and fuzzy dice are nice too (for some people).

My wife and I have a Cashmere and the monotone is what separates it from the others. Being one color makes it one good looking car and brings many comments. If I did change, I would be careful and keep the original just in case.

I love the look of the grill and would not change it. I have even given a little thought to having mine painted......But the bottom line is, "what do YOU want."

I have often wondered why the designers at Ford opted to paint the grills on their “Limited Edition” SUVs that were painted “cashmere” during the era of the 02-05 Thunderbirds. They still do that even today on the color that replaced “cashmere”. I guess that when they decide to use cashmere on the 50th Anniversary Edition then by default the monotone scheme was used. I have thought about changing mine to chrome and keeping the cashmere one and even started the ordering process once but cancelled it out. Within the Thunderbird enthusiast community the painted grill is instantly associated with the “cashmere” just like coral is 007, MM is PCR, silver over black is NM, etc. I guess I like that.

Max, it is your car so if you like the look DO IT!

I used to be anal retentive about keeping my Birds stock, unmolested and very low mileage with limited driving as 2K2Bird will tell you but that has changed.

Modify and drive it as you wish ... You can't carry it with you.

My 04 Raven has several mods that would have never happened with my 03 Raven.

                            Just my 2 cents.
