  • Window of a New Season

Life is good in southwest New Mexico! At 5900 feet we live in a place with four gentle seasons, friendly folks, green chilies, and beautiful vistas as far as the eye can see, which tends to be about 80 miles. We have our own signs which tell the season is changing: the chilies turn red, drivers slow down in the school zones, and Sonrisa, our 2003 smile generating T’bird gets her hard hat on. Ah, the port hole is back!

I miss the Hatch green chili. There is nothing like it.

We've lived in eleven states and four provinces over the past 48 years and New Mexico is still our favorite of them all. It is a wonderful, special place and we hope to get back to visit again.

We lived in Rio Rancho and still miss the sun rising and setting on the Sandias, dinners at Garduno's, the sound of crunchy dry snow under our horses hooves, and the absence of traffic!

I also miss being able to hit a five iron 230 yards at 5,400 feet.

Life is good anywhere but especially in your state.

I put the top on my car last week as usual for this time of year. I kind of look forward to it after the long hot Summer. Yesterday I went out for a drive along Beverly Shores on the Southern tip of Lake Michigan here in Northern Indiana. Beautiful Blue fresh water as far as the eye can see, three months from now it will be ice as far as the eye can see. Leroy

Do T-Bird owners up north drive their cars in the snow? Or do you store them for the winter?
Funny how different things are from region to region. The 'Bird owners here in Florida are now just taking the hardtops OFF since it is too hot and humid in the summer. We are now just getting into our "top down" weather.

            Rick,
I don't think anyone in the New England Chapter of TBN drives their Tbirds in the snow. Some may take them out on a nice day, but I'm not sure. For us, we have about four to six weeks left this year before the car is put into hibernation until May. We enjoy the look of the hardtop for a couple of months in the fall and a month or so in spring, otherwise we're topless all summer. Five years or less and we will be Florida snobirds with our Tbird.

You are right, Rick. We are coming into the high season of TOPS DOWN driving. Ah, Florida.

As a mater of fact, I thought about legislating that all the Birds in the November 7th Cruise would be required to be topless in order to join the 25 mile caravan. However, I have already run into one miscreant who has announced that he definitely will have his hard top ON. Proves, you can't win them all.

Who am I to say? I don't even own a hard top for my Bird.

P.S. I know a lady who has a like-new RED hard top that she will sell cheap (she no longer has her Bird).

                Richard,
Bummer! i don't think that I could go that long without driving mine!
Let us know when you start "wintering" down here. We'll all greet you with welcoming

                  Tom,
I'd love to get that and have it painted! But seeing how I just purchased the "Bird itself, it may be a while till I can get her a top!

I've been driving up till Thanksgiving, that usually has been about the last time I would take it out. Maybe one more time to fill it up and have it washed before I put it in the garage and put the cover on it. I don't use a charger on it, but I do start it about once a month and let in run for awhile. So far no problems. Sometimes I'm tempted if we get a warm spell and most of the snow melts, to take it out and drive it. The biggest reason I don't is the salt they put on the roads. It can ruin a car. So I've been leaveing it in the garage till about the 1st of May, by then April showers have washed it all away. Leroy

The latest I have driven my car up here in the Toronto, Canada area was until Dec. 11th a few years back. We didn't have any snow that year until Dec. 22nd but usually by mid November both Birds go into the garage until around April 30th. Ditto on the snow and salt.

The hardtop will go on as soon as we get back from Choo Choo Thunder. Love those port holes.

I'll keep you in mind. Our 2nd home is about 3 hours from you on the gulf coast in Cross City, Fl. I think Ol' Dave is our closest member. He's about two hours south of us.
