Re: Window of a New Season

On a windy, snowy day as is often the case during the Northern winter, I love the fact that I can still drive my Bird in the relative warmth of a Georgia winter. Taking the Bird out for a drive in the Winter gives me a cheerful attitude that spreads over me like an umbrella of hope. When it's a cloudless, sunny day in mid-winter, it reminds me to be grateful for the mild winters in Georgia. So when it comes to winter weather, on a scale from 1 to 10, Georgia is definitely a 12. And I think, oh, my, how lucky I am to own a Thunderbird and live in Georgia!

Just took what may be the last top-down drive of the year on Sunday. Beautiful crisp fall day, had the heater going. Still holding out for Indian summer but will soon put the hardtop on. I drive on nice days up until salt is put on road and then it stays in the garage until spring. I start it up once a week and still have the original battery going strong. Getting itchy to drive with the porthole but want one more nice color filled fall day drive with the top down.

Ahhh...the port-hole, how novel; We put ours back on the 2002 Thunderbird Blue, Thursday, October first. It's beginning to get a bit cold in Wisconsin and the Autumn leaves are giving us a pretty show this year. Hope to make a drive up the "thumb of Wisconsin" to Door county, before the show is over. We plan on driving ours til first snow-fall that brings the road-salters out.

I, too, drive ours year round...52 months old and it just turned 38,000 miles. Here in Phoenix, we normally remove our hardtop on October 1 as the days/nights become cooler...drove home from work yesterday with the top down...78 degrees outside...lovely!

...Just put the hardtop on and the winter mats in...here on the lone prairie! ...As usual we have gone from summer to winter in an indecently short period of time....This will be the 8th winter....The interior is a cozy place to be in the dead of winter....Weight distribution over the wheels is perfect, allowing for great handling in the winter weather....The paint is very durable and still shows well....It's all good....and remember with each day that goes by, we are one day closer to Spring! Cheers!

              Hey Richard & Gordon,
I have family in Tampa, Redington Shores and I am over there often.
Maybe we'll meet up on the beach someday for cocktails!

65 degrees and sunny today temps in the 30's by the weekend.

Re: Window of a New Season

There are a few of us here in New England who drive our Birds all year. I drive my black 02 all year and winter is hard on any car never mind a black one. It is a constant struggle to keep the salt and sand at bay but I do it because I love driving my TBird. Driving during snow is another thing...not a good idea. Hard top goes on the week after Columbus Day weekend.

I too drive my 05 MSB all year long.
Here on the eastern side of Washington State we often get a little snow from time to time during the months of December, January & February the Bird handles very well. The worst if the spray treatment the cities use on the pavement to combat the streets icing up. This stuff is not corrosive like road salt but just the same it makes a mess that washes off.

The day temp is still hiting the 60s but the trees are changing color.....
Its porthole time! The HT goes on this week.

                      Good News & Bad News:
BAD NEWS is I gave up on an Indian summer and put the hartop on today.
GOOD NEWS is I've got the PORTHOLES BACK! Taking Janice out to dinner tonight in style. Will be thinking of all of you at Choo-Choo Thunder. Damn, we have to make the next one, can't stand missing all the fun you are all having.

315 miles today from home to Ocean City MD and back to go to a convention. Started raining in DE, then got cool, so it was top up the rest of the day. I think it's hardtop time soon too. But taking the Bird made the drive palatable.

                          Hard Top On!
Temps only getting to mid 30s during the day but lots of sunshine it soooo
clear which will make tonight's temps below freezing. Too Too soon.

But the Hard Top is on. What a unique car. This the starat of our 6th winter for our Bird and I still get this wonderful pleased feeling whenever we switch back n forth between the HT off / on.

It is truly two extraordinary cars for the price of one.
