  • sales pitch for a local Ford dealer

Received one of those letters from a local Ford dealer today asking that I consider trading in my 05 Tbird as they "had a waiting list of people looking for a Thunderbird. They had a need for 7 tbirds in their inventory.

Any one get one like that lately?

Yes, I got one within the last couple of days.

I figure they're just trying to drum up some business.

I got one a few months ago. I called them and said I wasn't interested, would probably never be interested, and (most importantly) to please stop sending me ads.

Back in May 2007 we purchased a new Lincoln MKX and within two weeks we received the letter wanting us to trade in the Lincoln. It is just a computer generated mailing list with little or no logic programmed in.

I have received very official looking mailings from Toyota, Nissan, Lexus, and Infinity telling me to bring in my 05 Ford Thunderbird and they guarantee the full original price of the vehicle towards a trade on a shiny new, gas efficient, vehicle. When you start looking at the fine, and I mean fine, print the original price is based on NADA data and one would deduct any cash back offers in effect, according to NADA data, on the vehicle at the time of purchase and then you get into the mileage deductions which is something like 25 cents per mile and then appearance deductions. Just another come on.

I get them every few months for my Expedition and my Birds, but I know they are form letters because the person I've dealt with for the last 25 years at Freedon Ford knows I will contact him when I need or want another vehicle. He knows better than to ask me to trade in any car.
