If you use POR-15 you need to make sure that the area is completely rusted. I believe it bonds itself to rust but not smooth painted surfaces. You might try a little black Rustoleum before going the POR-15 route. POR-15 has got to be the best thing I’ve ever used on rusted surfaces, the stuff is amazing. I’m not sure I would put anything on the axels and drive shaft. On the other spots I would just buy a small can of Rustoluum and spend some time rolling around on the garage floor touching up the rust spots.

Chuck - You can paint surfaces that aren't rusted with POR-15. The frame of my 55' Tbird is completely covered with POR-15. You just have to be sure you are painting on bare metal.

Hi to all!
Was just looking through the paper-work for my 02 T-Bird and noticed that the original owner opted to have the dealer apply "The Protector" (The Protector Enviormental Overcoat Paint Protection Sytem and Surface Rust Shield) and "The Protector" (The Protector Interior Shield); each application came with a five year limited warranty. However, the first item is listed as '10-Year Rust Perforation Protection--5-Year Surface Rust Protection--5-Year Paint Protection--5-Year Enviormental Paint Damage Protection'; the disclaimer then reads: "This warranty is applicable only on vehicles to which The Protector Overcoat Paint Shield and Electronic Rustinhibitor have been applied."

Was then wondering if this be why the undercarriage of my 02 with 14,700+ miles is in somewhat better condition than my 05 with 1,300+ miles on it? Neither car has ever seen a winter season.

Anybody else out there have protective coating systems offered by the dealer? Were they endoresed by Ford?

Hey all, recently I inspected the under-carriages of my 02, and that of my 05, and was suprised that the 02 had little corrosion at about 14,500 mi. while the 05 has quite a bit more at just 1,275 mi. Apparently, the previous owners did not have much storage savvy....I know, I know, these cars were designed to be used and enjoyed...anyhow, anybody got any good suggestions to prevent further corrosion, like maybe coating the rusty parts with light grease? Or, some other rust inhibiter? Those of you that store theirs on top of plastic, to prevent the moisture of the concrete floor from radiating upwards for a season, have it right! Will post pictures soon to give a visual on my problem, which I hope to correct.

Have you tried Ziebart? We have used them in the past with good results (but primarily with a newer vehicle so they may have age/mileage limitations).
