I bought a new set of Michelin OEMs a month or so ago from my friendly local Ford dealer (believe it or not, the best price, including Tire Rack with installation). They have been fine and I have been very pleased with the improved traction and better ride. I assumed (Iknow, I know)that the dealer would correctly inflate the tires. I stopped in yesterday to have them check the pressure since they should have settled in by now (6oo miles). The usually courteous service writer took my car to the bowels of the shop and returned in 10 minutes saying "that he had checked and they were all set at 35psi." I said they should be at 30 as per the door sticker but he insisted that I was wrong and that it "said on the tire" that they should be 35. I said that I didn't care what Michelin thought and I wanted them at factory setting. We both looked at the door sticker where he said 'see it says 2 35!" reading me the tire size. I pointed out the 30 PSI front/30 PSI rear notation and he sent for the tireman. Tire man tells me that it's OK because his guage reads 5 pounds too high so they were actually at 30 now .. (are you following this?) I asked him to bring a tire guage .. yes, they were all at 33 to 36. We bled them all down to 30 (cold). and I went on my way. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The car rides like a Lincoln, much quieter, safe and an even more secure feeling. Go ahead, try this at home. I had a Cadillac Allante that also called for 30psi and made a world of difference in the ride, that is when it actually was drivable, but that's another story.

Re: checked your tires psi lately?
I use Nitrogen myself for the little it costs, it is worth it for some of the advantages...
Here is what Jay Leno says about Nitrogen...

Re: checked your tires psi lately?
This does not surprise me in the least. It would surprise me if the tire installers actually set the tires to the correct psi!. I have talked to many people who have taken out their digital tire gauges, and checked their tire pressure after new installation, and found them all over the range, up to 60 psi. The reason, they put the tires under high pressure to pop the sidewalls and sit the beads, then sometimes, they forget to adjust the proper pressure.
I always tell them what to set the pressure to, then check. I usually don't have a problem, but only because I check.

I'm fairly certain it's a benefit of your Costco membership. But like I said, all I can speak to is my experience. If you want to know more, you'll have to call.

Re: checked your tires psi lately?
No nitrogen at my Ford dealer, they apologized. Besides the dry air factor, I can see no reasonable reason to inflate with nitrogen. The "leak through factor" of Oxygen is just not reasonable science and aluminum rims are not going to rust. That said, Costco will service what they sell and will fill your Costco bought tires with Nitrogen. I have to look up what i paid for the tires, give me an hour.. If you run your tires at 35 PSI you will get 4 to 10 percent better fuel mileage and they won't care if it's nitrogen. Nitvrogen is a waste product from the liquid air business with little practical use - name one??
