  • T-Bird in Europe...some questions!

I have a 2004 Thunderbird here in the UK.
Originally imported from Canada, I have a couple of questions may one of you guys can help with. Speedo reads in miles and Kilometres however odometer reads in Kilometres. Is there an easy way to change this to read miles...sometimes there is a combo buttom push to change from metric to imperial.

The Radio only tunes to odd FM stations 97.1, 97.3 etc. Our stations are also on evens 95.8, 102.2 etc. Do you know of a way to make the standard radio tune to those frequencies?

Any help would be really gratefully received...!

There is are 2 small buttons on the left side the A/C temp readout. The top one switches the readings to metric and back again.

No idea about the radio. I suggest you check with a local Ford dealer.
Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9 Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

      Really appreciate your fast reply...Thanks!
Does this button also change the Odometer readings from KM to Miles? Car not here at moment so can't check. I would assume it will change the AC temp display for sure...

      Kindest Regards

        David,

        Greetings from Canada!

The button referenced only changes the outside and interior temperature changes. The odomoter does not change, the same plataform as was used in the Retro Bird was also used in the Lincoln LS and Jag S type and those systems do allow you to change the odo to miles from Km's.

As for the radio, I would think it would pick up whatever stations you program into the pre-set radio buttons but now that I think about it our radio stations are all in odd numbers ie: 98.1 or 104.1.

I don't know of any solution for that other than taking your car to a car audio shop to see what can be done other than replacing the radio itself. They may have a solution.

        Good Luck!

        Gord R.

Hi David, welcome to TBN and nice to see another EU member.
I too have a Candian Bird. As far as I know the odometer cannot change. It simply give you distances in KM.

The radio does indeed only give uneven frequencies. Never had it changed or did any inquiry to do such. Don't think ik canbe changed other then replacing it by an after market model.

Where are you located in UK? I have a frined living in Suffolk that I visit every now and then.

            Re: T-Bird in Europe...some questions!

Telling me it can't be done gives me something to do.....;-))

This is my girlfriend's new car (from an R32 Golf MK5)

She is a vet, with a big criterier of the buying process being able to put a large dead dog in the trunk.....!

I have a BMW Z8 from new and she wanted something similar in regards to size and drop top features.

I would imagine she will want to go aftermarket on the stereo side because of the need for Bluetooth, sat nav etc and I have founds ways to do this, but the odometre is a pain because she has to log mileage, and this would be better without having to convert all the time.

We are near Colchester in Essex...not far from Suffolk really......

The sad part for many owners is that she will be using the car and racking up some miles (or kilometres!) so we hope it will be reliable. For sure it will not be a garage queen....;)

Thank for your input, greatly appreciated.

            David

With the Z8 and the Bird you have two of the most beautiful cars together. Great combo.

My friend lives in Barningham, close to Bury St. Edmunds. Great countryside to tour with the Bird.

If your girlfriend wants to put a dead dog in the trunk it better not be too big

She did check....wow it's small for such a big car!

The Z8 really is becoming a classic now, I have done many mods to it including LSD (BMW didn't fit one believe it of not), and that car really is a garage queen.....

If you are over in the UK give me a shout....

I was thinking the same thing about the countryside around Colchester. What a rush that would be in a Tbird !! I visit England often - in fact my brother was born in Colchester - great, historical place.. hmm - you should get a picture of the TBird in front of Colchester Castle !!!

By the way, and I do digress, but your name bears a striking resemblance to a guitarist from the group Slade !! But you probably hear that often.....

No not me I'm afraid.......I definately can't sing....thinking about it though, neither could they.....;)))

I'll try and do the photo.....

                      Re: T-Bird in Europe...some questions!

I use to work near the Canada border and some of the people I worked with would go to Canada to buy cars. New or used the dealers would change the module from kilometers to miles at no charge, but they were selling the car. So it can be done at a dealer. They also got an affidavit stating the mileage when changed as it would start at -0-.
