Re: walmart blue 2002 1:64 retro bird

I found one at my neighborhood Walgreens tonight. Speed Wheels packaging is a Walgreens branded deal. $.79 what a deal. Package stamped #0945, car stamped #0942

Re: walmart blue 2002 1:64 retro bird

I asked a bunch of family and friends to help me with this Maisto project. Between Walmart, Walgreen's and Cracker Barrel Restaurant, they have done quite well. (Austin,Texas, Upstate New York, Philadelphia, Foxboro & Dedham, Massachusetts, and here in Florida.
My collection so far includes 5 packs with codes on the back bottom ranging from #917 to #942, and single packs ranging from 941 to 945. More are coming in so they may have different code numbers.

The 5 packs are easier (relatively speaking) to find than the single packs. The single packs in Walgreens are 79 cents and come in a 1956 model and a 2002 model. Both are blue, but the 56 model is much darker & brighter (and has a continental kit). The 02 model is the lighter THUNDERBIRD BLUE. The single packs from Walgreen's are made by Maisto (stamped on the bottom of the car), but are on display cards labeled "SPEED WHEELS".

It is a surprise, so don't talk about it - - but I am using these in my Spring event (LADY THUNDER) on May 1st. Many people will go home with a nice souvenir of the day. I still need more of the single packs, but doing fine on the 5 packs.

I know now that I am truly a T Bird fanatic because I put so much energy into finding little toy cars. If you have to ask why, you just don't get it.

I finally have enough of the 5 packs for the May 1st Florida Cruise for surprise table prizes. Now I am working on the single packs - both at Walmart and at Walgreens. They are 88 cents and 79 cents. The search goes on - there are VERY few around. Cracker Barrel restaurants have them sometimes, but they cost considerably more there.

If you live in Southeast United States, see if you have a FRED's store - a chain of five and dime stores with a pharmacy. They have diecasts also, and occasionally there is a T Bird on the shelf.

I happened to find 4 of the single 2002 blue T-birds today at Walmart. That was all they had, so I bought all of them. Bill

How easy it is to get swept up in this crazy pasttime called "collecting Tbird Stuff". I first reported seeing the 5 packs several months ago and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Then I saw a single pack with a Tbird and bought it, just to be one of you, a collector. Found 2 more a few weeks later and 2 more last week. Wow, this is fun. Then the other day I found two unopened boxes of singles at Walmart, wow, felt like dancing on the ceiling !! But alas there were no Tbirds in either box. This is a frustrating hobby you guys have gotten me into. Then yesterday, while looking in a Ross store in St. Petersburg, FL for anything resembling a Tbird, I found a Maisto Car Carrier with three cars. No there were no Tbirds. There was a dark red Hummer H2, An orange 2008 Dodge Challenger and a yellow Ford Mighty F-350 pick up complete with a hitch in the bed to haul a 5th Wheel. Bonanza !!! But an idea struck me, why not put the 5 Tbirds I have on the car carrier. If I'm lucky, I'll find another single pack and be able to fill up the carrier. However, now I have another problem and I need the help of a seasoned, experienced car nut (collector). What happens to the value of my 88 cent, 2002 Thunderbird Blue model if I open the pack?

My guess would be that you will loose 50% of the value. Can you afford to take that big a hit.
But on the other hand having six of them on the car carrier may double the value of those items.
This sounds like we need Marty to do some bubba math to compute your actual gain or loss.

Found a web site that has the die-cast 1:64 Desert Sky Blue T-Bird in the single pack. They have 2 in stock at $3.49 each. Is this the same pack that y'all are buying for 88 cents?

sixpac, did they have a picture of it? It's most likely the same one we've been getting for 88 cents and most likely it's NOT desert sky blue.
