    Re: Tires

Remember to check the pressure "cold". It is possible to read 5psi or more higher after driving for 10 minutes or so.

      Re: Tires

      Hi there,

I thought that part of the reason for using nitrogen was that the difference between hot and cold did not effect the pressure that much, more stable in other words. In this case, even allowing a difference of 5 psi still had them over the limit of the manufacturers recommended pressure.

Wasn't there an issue years ago that the cars were coming from the dealer/factory with pressure way too high?

yes, Wixom seated the tires at around 45 and shipped them that way. They expected the dealers to lower the air pressure to specs. Didn't happen at most dealers. Probably the dealers' prep guys didn't even check them.

There were many complaints on the forums of jittery rides and cowl shake, etc.

            Re: Tires

I bought my "04" in March from a dealer and she came with Continental touring Contact As, 235/55/17, The previous owner oviously put on cheap tires to sell, I am very unhappy with them, I have had to back off numerous times when they would break loose from the road. I haven't decided what to replace them with but will be soon. I hate to have to watch my driving as I know the Tbird should handle better than this.

How about a serious answer to what I suspect is a less than serious question.

Get the stock Michelin then. It gets great mileage if you don't abuse 'em and they "look" correct but the really have very poor traction on dry pavement vs more performance oriented tires. From a standing start mashing the pedal on my '04 will demolish the driver's side Michelin if that sort of thing floats your boat. (I find the whole idea to be silly in these cars......single-trac black marks on the road are the calling card of a weak performance car......more embarrassing than cool anyway)

Stay away from the Goodyear GTs though. Our '02 never was strong enough to do more than make a squeal of the tire from a standing start with the Michelins but with the Goodyear it just grabs and goes in silence.

If you're spinning wheels, you're not going anywhere...grab and go is the way it's supposed to work
