    CAI and the computer

    Hi all,
    I was told by a ford mechanic that if I got a K&N air intake system I would have to get the computer chip upgraded. I don't think so. My chip already has the latest flash. I think the computer would make the proper adjustments for the change in air flow. Am I correct in the assessment?

    No need for computer update from what I read. I done mine but have an 02. But if you do CAI, you must install Borlas...

      Thanks for the response. Yeah, Borlas are in the future plans. just have to save my pennies.

        From what I have read there are certain things which are automatically adjusted based on the drivers driving habits. Not sure if increased intake and exhaust are some of them. That being said just adding the CAI & Borlas are kids play (although they sound great) --> get the XCal, have the car Dynoed and modified by a professional. Your life will never be the same, an amazing difference. Don’t mean to offend anyone and don’t take my word as gospel, speak to others who have had the XCal program applied.

          Merely adding a CAI will have a negligible effect on the motor and electronics. Your not going to "uncork" a bunch of power, nor are you going to lean out the fuel mixture.

          I added a CAI for two reasons: 1) un-clutters the engine bay, 2) enhances the under hood engine growl.

            I just added Borlas after installing CAI. I haven't had a chance to run it much yet, but the sound is music to my ears. Warning! If you are not a hot rodder at heart, don't add CAI and Borlas. They will disturb your peace.

              And the sound will continue to get better & better over the next 300/500 miles.

                Chuck, I had not heard of the XCal i'll have to look into that.
                More time on the computer, less time to drive...
