NEW EXHAUST TIPS

Just had these new tips installed while visiting my friend "Handyman" in Ft. Myers. I was tired at looking at those anemic stock tips. In my opinion Ford should have used 3 1/2" tips to fill in the large cutouts in the rear bumper. The new one's are 3 1/2",slashed/rolled ends in stainless steel and are welded on to the back of the mufflers. An added feature is that they give off a slightly louder sound which is pleasing to the ear. I couldn't be happier.

Looks great! How far back did he cut the old ones?? Did he weld onto the muffler while still attached to the car? Any particular brand or right off of his shelf?

They cut the original pipe off right at the muffler then took the new tip and cut it to the desired length and welded it to the muffler. Then made a new hanger and welded that to the tip. He did a great job. Took less then an hour. The tips were in his stock,the original length was 18" and I had them cut to 12" so they only stick out 1" from the bumper. The original tips were too small and set back too far.

I did the same thing to mine only a little less costly, I would imagin. As you can see on my avatar mine are pretty much the same except for the rolled ends and I did all the work myself in about 10 minutes. Mine are from JEGS.com part# 958-EVT50 3" x 9" long Stainless Steel and slip right over the stock tips. I slipped them on and when I was sure they were straight, I drilled a small hole in each one way in the back were it slipped over the original, and put a SS sheet metal screw in each one to keep them in place. They were $47.98 a pair including shipping and handling from Jegs. I run my TBird with no resonators and at certain RPMs I noticed a slight drone inside the car. A freind told me he had that problem with a car and it was from the exhaust tips not far enough from under the car, so I did this and problem solved. This may also help those that notice an odor from their exhaust? So far I've had nothing but positive complements on them as well as the sound. Leroy

Both tip solutions look great! What type of heat problems or any discoloration of the bumper cover? This looks like a very nice addition for cruising.

The 3.5" is a good size for an extension for the 02-05 Thunderbird IMHO. Not too big, not too little.

I can not tell from the pics you provided - is the support bracket welded to the top of the extension? I do not see it in the "after" pics but assume it is there somewhere.

Banar, Since my tips have been on for well over a year, I can say there are no problems with heat on the bumper cover, and in fact that area stays cleaner from less exhaust film building up on the cover. Another thing is mine can easily be removed if you or the next owner wants to go back to the original look of the original tips with-out doing any cutting or welding. Leroy

How were you able to slide the new tips over the old when the old are 3'' and your new ones are also 3''? Or am I missing something?

Thanks Leroy. When this tour comes to an end- hoping for April 21st- this is getting put on the list of "Gotta Do". I can find them on line and get them ordered and waiting at the door. All along with the new strut, O2 sensor, and tire- this should make for a nicer ride. Banar

Sandman, The extentions I bought are made to slip over a 3" O.D. pipe on the square cut end for about 3" then they reduce to 3" O.D. out to the slashed end. They fit right over the stock tips. I think I sent you all this info about 6 months ago in an P.M. per your request. Leroy

Dennis,(Handyman) had these new tips installed about 3 weeks ago. After he took me to his installer and I had mine put on,he decided he liked them better and had his removed and replaced with my type. Some guys don't know what to do with their money,LOL.
