  • Windshield Glare

Does anyone else have trouble seeing thru the reflection of the dashboard in the windshield. I am considering having it tinted and would appreciate any comments or recommendations.

I get a little reflection from the grill for the defrosters - just at the base of the windshield. It's not enough to seriously irk me. No real serious irks anywhere on my Bird, actually.

Just wondering - have you applied products such as Armor-All on your dash? If so, this will cause plenty of glare problems.

I have always been bothered by dash top glare in the windshield, in every car I have had. But, the shallow angle of the windshield and quite large expanse of dash do seem to make the T-bird particularly prone to glare. I found many years ago that polarized sunglasses makes the glare disappear. Not just regular sunglasses, they have to be polarized.
Another option is black felt, that also cuts way down on the glare, but is not real attractive, and probably not practical in a convertible.

I second the polarized sun glasses. Cuts it out completely.

You can tint all the other windows to a certain extent, but I believe it's against the law to tint the windshield, other than the visor area. Leroy

Thanks All. I will try the polarized sun glasses. I love my car 04, Merlot and Sand, 14m miles and want to keep it as original as possible.

Just my two cents ; my winshield IS tinted , doesnot do much for glare from the inside tho . The sunglasses does the trick . If you deside to tint the winshield , as I have,do not go dark . My tint is mainly a heat and U V blocker, as I do not like fooling with the fold away sun blockers . Mine is clear from the inside out with a very lite tint from the outside in . Matches the tint on all the other windows . Legal in Tennessee per the tint shop .

A dash rug of a light color to match your interior will also work. It has for me and it can be removed if desired. LH

I had to purchase a dash cover for my car as the glare was a killer. It's also nice that you can remove it for shows, and put it back up for the drive home. It has made a BIG difference for me. I purchased a black one to match the dash and most people just think the dash came that way......

I have never had a glare problem from my dash. I remember reading something in the owner's manual that said the dash had a dull flat painted finish to avoid glare and to only wipe it with a damp cloth to keep it clean. It is very tempting to use leather cleaner or Armor-All or some other product that will give it a sheen.

"Turtle Wax Ice Total Interior Care" cleans the dash and leaves a nice matte surface with very little reflected glare.

The dash mat is what I use.

I have a black one and it is perfect and it can be removed anytime I want.
