Re: Buying on e-Bay advice needed!

I have purchased a number of vehicles from Ebay sellers and i advise you to make sure the sale is contingent on an inspection. Some items just can't be seen well enough in pictures. Two inspection services I have used are SGS (http://sgs-ebay.sgsauto.com/order_inspection.htm) and the other is Carchex (https://www.carchex.com/inspect/order/). Both do a good job and are reasonably priced.

A personal inspection is preferred but if not possible, use the services.

My experience has been that items always look much better in the photos than in person. I trusted a Carfax "no damage history" report on a Miata I purchased some years ago and later found extensive body repair and repaint work. Some say that Auto-Check is a better reporting system....just my 2 cents.

An update for anyone who was wondering:

Thanks to Alan (TexasWhiteBird) I arranged for an inspection. They just called and told me the seller changed his mind and decided not to sell and canceled the inspection. Makes me wonder if all was as adverstised. It's a disappointment but a good lesson. If I can't see it, I'm not buying it.

(edit) The thing that ticks me off is he cancelled the inspection but never called or e-mailed me and told me he was taking it off the market. Kind of spineless IMO. Not what I expected from a Texan.

sorry Ski, that bites1 But sounds like he had something to hide so I would venture to say you may be better off in the long run. The car you want is out there...somewhere, just have to keep options open is all...good luck in your continuing search, alan
